Parental compensation for virtual learning

No one is reimbursing them...we are in the middle of a once-in-a-century GLOBAL PANDEMIC. Your life is going to be inconvenienced. Your children are going to have some inconveniences as well. Your kids will be ok. You will be ok. You do not need to be compensated for your "time, stress and best effort."

HEY TEACHERS. THIS APPLIED TO YOU TOO. HOW's THAT 20 PERCENT REDUCTION IN INSTRUCTIONAL DUTIES GOING?

Its more than that in Loudoun. My 4th grader's teacher is only live with the kids 3.5 hours a day/4 days a week.

Please refrain from common sense. That’s not accepted here. Additionally, do not even suggest the usage of condoms to avoid dealing with a human being you don’t want to spend time with.

I thought the Dems were interested in a stimulus targeted at all parents? I think it’s a great idea. Give people money. It’s one of our best tools to cool the political climate.

It's obviously accepted practice in many states to reimburse for homeschooling expenses.

How many hours were they getting live instruction during the school day? Between lunch, recess, and specials—it’s probably not much different.

PP here not talking about their time but I thought OP was talking about books and tools.

No - it's literally being a teacher. That's the complaint.

Unless you have unenrolled your child to homeschool, you are not teaching. They have a teacher who is teaching. You might not like what they are getting but they are being taught. Making your kid do their homework is called being a parent.

Cool! But there's no compensation in Virginia yet. And I think you have to unenroll your child to receive the homeschooling compensation anyways.

IF a state has such a system in place then they must provide equal opportunity for all, BUT what if tomorrow VA just said they were scrapping the whole thing? What would you do then? Demand money? From whom?

If you have a problem with the FREE resources provided to you (I know, I know, you’re taxpayers 🙄) then maybe you should take some proactive steps to improve things. Otherwise, I think there is a saying about begging and choosing that might be applicable...

I would absolutely demand money if VA scrapped public education. I would expect a large reduction of taxes. Your point?

So why doesn't those who go the private school route get a reduction in the taxes they pay? Their kids are not using up public school resources yet these families continue to pay their taxes into the educational pot. See the rabbit hole there PP?????

This should have stayed in your private group chat or the drafts folder of your personal thoughts that shouldn't be shared with the world.

Parents have been expected to help students at home for centuries. There are quite a few parents that have just started this year.

65% of my taxpayer money goes to schools in my county. DH and I each paid over 10k in state and local taxes. We don't have school children yet (K next year). Nothing is FREE!

Our kids, and many in the same classroom, are struggling according to our kids' teachers. Given a stimulus is being crafted, has anyone heard of compensation for parents that have had to contribute significantly to their child's education to fill the gaps caused by the demands for continued virtual learning? I'm sure like many, we've purchased online tutorials, workbooks, etc - not to mention our own time away from our jobs and lost productivity. I hate to try and 'get mine', but unfortunately this is the attitude that's being put forth by the FCPS union leaders and teachers. It seems only fair then that parents are compensated for their time, stress and best efforts to close to the gaps that forced virtual learning throughout FCPS has caused.

Suck it up- Just like all the parents of special needs children who have had to pay for tutors and therapies that the the schools/society has chosen to not provide.

+10000000. The amount of money that we've invested in the past 15 years is astronomical.

It’s horrible. They fill it with meetings. I would way rather be teaching the kids. We didn’t make the schedule why are you screaming at us?
