California has a lot of subsidies for homeschooling. |
This actually supports the OP's point. Many workers have returned to work and are getting compensated for their extra costs, etc. Why wouldn't parents who are stepping up? |
Everyone but school staff. |
Completely agree with the OP. Parents who never hoped nor wanted to enter the teaching profession have been thrust into it. Similar to vouchers, there is no reason these parents should not get some sort of subsidy for doing the job of the public schools. Public schools should be stripped of their funding. period. FCPS is a disgrace and should suffer the consequences of their ineptitude. |
Gatehouse hasn't "stepped up" |
Oh, man. I needed a good laugh today. I want schools to open, too, but I haven’t quite gone off the deep end yet. Thanks, OP, for bringing the comic relief from yet another stressful work/DL day. |
California gives families $2600 for homeschooling supplies. They have to prove what they bought. |
This. Either you help or you don’t. |
I hear you, OP. I could be more supportive of teachers unions if they would own the fact that they only care about their members, and stop trying to make it about "student" and "community" safety. BS. Your only priority is teachers--as it should be! You're their union! So stop trying to gaslight us into thinking you give a damn about any of the other stakeholders here.
We're in MCPS, but it's the same cluster here. Solidarity. |
What I just don't get is how EVERYONE seems to think it's no big deal for kids to do virtual learning. This requires a parent at home! A parent who isn't slammed with work all day. There seems to be no consideration for working parents. |

Lots is states give homeschooling funds |
How tone-deaf: it's exactly the teachers and their leaders who are NOT stepping up. |
No - it's literally being a teacher. That's the complaint. |
"Virginia: none" |
When the pandemic is over, and the teachers post their whining complaints about how they have to spend money for extras in the classroom... we should respond "It's called stepping up!" |
