Indoor Basketball Rec Leagues not requiring masks during practice and games!!!!

Its amazing to me that the schools are requiring HS basketball players to wear masks to play but adults working out in indoor gyms and taking indoor exercise classes don't have to wear one.

Regardless, this rec league isn't requiring kids to wear masks, which is their prerogative and allowed under the VA rules. OP, this doesn't affect you at all so MYOB. Stop trying to ruin what little fun kids are allowed to have this year with your unscientific paranoia.

Oh boy, now you've gone and done it. How dare you tell the chicken littles on this site your child is playing without a mask. Don't you know they will be a super spreader and kill not only you and your immediate family but every other person they drive by to and from that horrid game. Hope he/she enjoys.

I agree if you don't like it, don't have your kid play. I do think it affects community spread though. Hopefully, it becomes a super spreader event and is shut down, anyway. Who cares. Let folks get sick if they want, OP.

This thread is moot. Rec Leages in FX County are required to wear masks to practice and games now, per the county. Smart decision! OP looks like you were on to something. My child will still play with a mask. We would play maskless or with one. Whatever is required. She just wants to play.

Luckily our league has our own facility so we can do our own thing, but we haven't heard anything from Fairfax about this and I am one of the volunteers.

We will wait for guidance from our league. If this is a new policy, Fairfax needs to require adults to wear masks while exercising at gyms as well.

No they do not. You can socially distance while exercising at gyms. You cannot socially distance during basketball. Also, gyms are run by private companies. Rec Leagues are using FX County facilities.

Our kids travel coach(for a Fairfax county league-that will compete in FYBL) sent an email for practice time starting in January. It said mask are mandatory at practice and a check in with questions are also mandatory each practice. We haven’t heard about games yet. Strange as the league also has rec/developmental that practice in same FCPS gyms. What Rec teams are not requiring masks?

If its a public health issue, then it shouldn't matter if the gyms are privately owned or not. Does paying to work out make your covid less contagious?

My kids are signed up to play Burke rec using Fairfax gyms. We were told masks were mandatory for adults and kids on the bench during games but not for the kids during active play. No spectators.
