Ask the HSers. They're all managing just fine. I suspect a mask just like the ones we wear daily. My kids used them during karate and have no issues. They also used them for rock climbing with no problems. |
+1 this was our experience too |
My son plays basketball with a mask. He says the key is to have a breath mint before you start to fight the nausea. He likes the disposable mask because it's lighter when he sweats. |
But isn’t fcps opening again in a few weeks ? |
So you know your maskless kids never mingled in the pool before or after- even though most clubs had no spectator rules? |
I’ll believe it when it happens |
They have canceled their plans over and over again. The older kids certainly won’t be back before basketball season is over. |
Right, so people not OK with maskless exercise should not sign their kid up for this league. |
I’m confused. I don’t really see a distinction between what your letting your kids do vs. the kids playing basketball. You can’t swim in a face mask. They are all breathing in and out in the same indoor air and they are maskless when getting in and out of the pool and maybe on deck too. There’s no air circulation in those indoor pools-I would rather be in the gym with the doors propped open for fresh air personally. This is one of those situations where people justify what they want to do and criticize what other people want to do.... |
If someone is not comfortable with their child playing with maskless kids, they can just not sign their kid up for voluntary rec basketball. |
LOL good one! |
| Yeah, I suspect they will cancel sometime in early January |
So you don't understand basketball. Have you ever seen someone play defense? Basketball players are closer than swimmers. Basketball players are up on top of one another and in other people's faces. Swimmers are not. |
My son plays HS indoor basketball so I don't really have a dog in this fight as my son and his teammates wear masks during practice and games, thankfully but I keep seeing posts about opening a door and it's driving me nuts. While better than nothing, opening a window or door can end up simply blowing air (and pathogens) around instead of out, he says. It’s better to try to enhance cross-ventilation by opening doors and windows on opposite sides of a room or building so that air moves away from the places where most contamination happens. |

I don't have kids that play basketball but it seems pretty obvious that if you don't feel safe letting your kids play maskless/eating in a restaurant/going to the gym/going to the movies etc then.....just don't do it. None of these activities are compulsory.
I'm tired of everyone trying to police what OTHER people want to do (when said activity is permitted under guidelines). And like pp said, everyone can justify the things that are important to them but the things that are important to OTHER people are just too risky (for instance, swim family mom). Hmm. This whole pandemic is one giant tragedy of the commons. |
