Indoor Basketball Rec Leagues not requiring masks during practice and games!!!!

How's it going with the masks? The older kids seem to do OK with them but it does seem kind of pointless for the younger players---the masks don't stay on, they are constantly pulling them off to get some air, etc. Just seems a bit like the covid version of taking your shoes off at the airport.

Yes, the masks are useless especially when they end up on the chin. I don't care as long as DS gets to practice REC basketball and the coach keeps the players apart.

Basketball players must be gentle souls. Field hockey, lacrosse, soccer players . . . all practicing and playing in masks.

Really? We had a rec fall soccer season and masks weren't required. Seems like overkill for outdoors sports.

I wouldn’t say overkill. I’d say irrational paranoid brain dead BS

Yes, my kid wore a mask for practices at half of the fields this fall, all clinics (the entire time), and tournaments. For indoor season, they wear masks for practice and indoor tournaments (the ones that haven't been cancelled). There is a lot of Cardio in the sport so it's not something like softball (which we love but def not as much running). And the kids do not complain even a little. The parents on the other hand . . . .

I bet it's for liability . . . . not a fear of spreading COVID outdoors.

FCPS told Fairfax county that they didn’t want little kids to use the gyms on nights/weekends without masks because they were requiring masks for high school sports and it wouldnt be “fair”. NCS wasn’t going to make it a requirement.

Silly for outdoor sports when on the field. My kids play baseball/softball and masks are required anytime when NOT on the field (team meetings, dugouts- if used, going to/from field etc...anytime they are not actively playing). Requiring them during active play is silly (they don’t stay up)and frankly- a safety hazard. Coaches and parents (and umpires) are required to wear masks at all times, period. If a parent is sitting alone in the outfield with no one nearby they let it slide- fine.

Has worked well all year and not been any problem.

You're qualifications that its unnecessary are what, exactly? Because I have friends with kids who play travel baseball, HS basketball, and other sports. All, to a one, have had COVID stops/starts. Even the outside ones.

Thoughts and prayers to those poor little kids. Are they out of the hospital yet?
