Rumors of a delay?

A slot that wasn’t real?

Yes folks don’t trust your emails from central saying you have a slot until you’ve dropped off your kid!

Send an email to the school ccing the Principal that you are accepting the spot. When your principal responds that it was in error - reach out to your council person asking for help.

I was told by a union organizer that teachers will be striking this Monday. To protest the plan for going back in person.

This makes me loathe the stupid parents supporting WTU even more. Do you still really think WTU has the kids' best interest at heart (looking at you PTA President who encourages parents to support WTU)?

I think asking for adequate safety measures is putting the students first. Health comes before in-person learning and no one should have to risk their health just so that DD can be in a school building.

They have spent tens of millions putting safely measures in place, and parents have a choice whether or not to send their kids back. How is that putting children firsts?

I’m a parent who has had kids in DCPS a long time. I’m not a huge fan of the WTU but if you think that the Mayor and DCPS puts students first, you are crazy.

None of these groups put children first. Unfortunate but true. WTU is at least transparent about that unlike the chancellor and mayor

Thank you! PP here who said I loathe these WTU supporting parents. Not sure how the other pp knows that I have a DD, but she has an IEP and desperately needs her in-person spot that she got! She's getting further and further behind as DL isn't working at all for her. DCPS has similar safety measures in place as other places that have opened, but it's never enough. WTU wants unreasonable safety terms plus asking for more money and no teacher evaluations. Obstructing opening definitely won't help my kid.

I never said that any of these parties put students first, only that WTU doesn't.

Honestly, the only issues going on here are that: (i) there are teachers (not all, for sure, but a sizeable group) who don’t want to take any risk despite it being part of their job, the risk being super small, and the cost-benefit highly weighing in favor of going back and (ii) there are parents bitter that their kid didn’t get an inperson spot. As a result, both groups are taking active measures to sabotage any opening for the child who absolutely need it the most, thereby continuing the increasing exponential risk that these kids are in. In short, selfish people are screwing over disadvantaged children, yet again.

Well DL is not working for my kid either and he does not have an IEP. Why should my kid suffer? It makes no sense to serve such few kids. This is a stupid plan.

Well, nobody else is putting the kids first other than DCPS.

The risk is going up every day due to the resurgence of the virus across the US. As a nation we should pay teachers more as we expect them to deal with all this crap. Turns out that teachers are not easy to replace very easily since there is a national teacher shortage. That is the reality we live in
