Rumors of a delay?

Anonymous
A few other threads said there will be a delay of the Nov. 9th opening so pulling it out here. Does anyone have more information?

If DCPS and the Union fail to come to an agreement the whole thing is off. Nobody is going back. Period. Could very likely happen. They are at an impasse.

On which issues? Any insight? Actual sticking points?

Has DCPS even talked to WTU? This whole reopening effort reeks of a Bowser power play.

Supposedly they were talking today at 5. I know there was a WTU meeting with teachers before that to talk about collective action. It was apparently a hot mess, but a majority voted in favor of a sick out on Friday. Nothing official from WTU though.

It was really late last night that I read it, so I slightly misremembered. But what I was recalling is that the CARES classrooms for PK-1 will start Nov 16 and 2-5 Nov 30th

You can find that here: https://dcpsreopenstrong.com/schedule/term2/

“ This program begins the week of November 16 for students in PK3 to 1st grade, and the week of November 30 for students in grades 2-5. Students will attend school five days a week with a half-day on Wednesdays.”

I mean, I hate to be blunt, but the issue is:

The Chancellor is a fool who couldn't plan his way out of a paper bag.

The principals union has also sent out a letter of how terrible this plan is. DCPS is no longer speaking to principals about Term 2 due to an action that the CSO (admin union) filed. So literally DCPS is taking to zero fo their school based employees. No one knows what is happening.

The link still has a date of Nov. 9th for in person start. But I believe you about the delay and frankly, as a parent of a child with special needs, feel devastated that it might fall through. We are barely hanging on and were so hopeful this would work out.

DCPS just rescinded all the return to work staffing surveys they have sent out since schools closed. So that means there is no staffing plan.

Expect the union to make a statement today about collective action.

Social workers are part of the wtu

It will all probably convert to CARES. Must suck to be one of those that got an in person learning spot to know there is no plan for a teacher.
