Well no they still have their randoms to come in. As well as paras and anyone else who is not part of the WTU (teachers social workers speech, OT, school psyc, etc)

Social workers are part of the wtu

As are SLPs and OTs

It was really late last night that I read it, so I slightly misremembered. But what I was recalling is that the CARES classrooms for PK-1 will start Nov 16 and 2-5 Nov 30th

You can find that here: https://dcpsreopenstrong.com/schedule/term2/

“ This program begins the week of November 16 for students in PK3 to 1st grade, and the week of November 30 for students in grades 2-5. Students will attend school five days a week with a half-day on Wednesdays.”

The link still has a date of Nov. 9th for in person start. But I believe you about the delay and frankly, as a parent of a child with special needs, feel devastated that it might fall through. We are barely hanging on and were so hopeful this would work out.

I’m sorry, as a sped teacher I know many of these kids must return but this plan is trash.
It’s not fair to steal staff from upper grades.

All kids should get the opportunity and it should be hybrid. School is not a babysitting service, families who must work and are low SES deserve half or no rent for the rest of the school year. Give landlords a tax cut or something. But no Bowser is all about the money, not students or famlies.

Yes, they are.

Thank you sped teacher. I agree with you. The plan is a disaster waiting to happen. Delay the opening for in-person until term 3. CARES classrooms should start, at the earliest, 2 weeks after in-person begins, to give schools a chance instead of being deluged with kids without knowing if the in-person is working.

Yes in-person (the one for 10-12 kids - homeless, IEP, and at risk - per grade) is November 9, but CARES is pushed out as stated above

Ummmm that is literally what they are doing...but for term II. In person starts Nov 9, then they are phasing CARES in first with PK-1 on Nov 16 and then 2-5 on Nov 30....

My most beloved para told me yesterday that her husband told her that if she is instructed to go back into school she is welcome to quit on the spot. This is like trying to force families to send their children to bad schools...it NEVER works. You can't force people to compromise the most important and essential parts of themselves and the people most important to them. What will it take for DCPS to learn this? And understand it?

+1 tend to agree because DCPS has proven it loves to spin its wheels and do nothing. They've had since March. They needed to come up with multiple plans with contingencies and lots of "if, then"s. We're headed into the holidays. They won't get jack sh*t done. CANCEL THE SCHOOL YEAR. Or at least tell families now that everyone is welcome to repeat next year. Take the pressure off.

I don’t disagree that the plan is terrible but DC doesn’t have any tax revenue coming in. I am not a big Bowser enthusiast by any means but someone has to think about revenue coming into the city. All of these programs won’t pay for themselves.

I thought CARES was starting after in person? I also think this is just the trial run for DCPS. They can’t get something perfect so they throw together the best they can and then see what goes wrong. If we don’t do this, I don’t see us having a good plan for January. This is the only way they are able to figure out a real plan—trial and error.

How will middle and high schools open when half their staff has been taken away. And one highschool even had their principal taken away. What has the Chancellor been doing since March if this is the best he could come up with and it looks like this plan was thrown together in a handful of days
