Very rarely. It is a treat and they probably have it once every 2 months or so when they are at a party or so. My 16 yr old DS is very health conscious thanks to his friends who are also very anti-junk food. We lucked out.

This thread is a fantastic illustration of the fact that "everything in moderation" is a meaningless phrase. When I was a kid, drinking soda "only on special occasions, maybe 5-10 times per year" and never buying it for the household would have been considered an "extreme," "restrictive" position.
Now it's considered "moderation." Which is fine, by the way! But just goes to show what you might consider moderation may just be whatever places you in the middle of your peer group at any given moment in history-- and has nothing at all to do with health or morality. |
My kids are teens. Maybe once every couple weeks if we go out to eat or have pizza. It's not something I typically keep in the house, but it's also not "forbidden." |
DD13 - never, just because she doesn’t like it.
DD11 - maybe once or twice a month. Non-caffeinated only. Pre-Covid, she might order one at a restaurant from time to time. At home, we keep some fruit juice sodas (San Pellegrino or the like) and she’ll have one occasionally. |
NONE! And no gum either. I told them the dentist won’t allow either until they have all their adult teeth. 😉 |
9 yo. anywhere from 0-3/week. we sometimes have it in the house and if we do, he tends to drink it more often. if we go out for dinner, we'll let him have a sprite. |
Only when we go out (rare even pre Covid) or at a party. |
Yeah my mom thought that to pay for drinks was a waste, we always had to bring our own water places. We only had water, milk (sometimes) and crappy coffee from the dollar store. |
None, I don't buy it or order it at restaurants. But if we are at a birthday party and that is what is served, fine. |
Water is free |
Right? I don't get this thinking at all. In what universe does paying MORE for soda vs. water = you have less money than people who drink mostly water? |
What do you serve for your kids b-day parties since they do not like to have things like cake or ice cream? It is great that they are so committed. Fruit salad? I was going to say yogurt cups...but most are pretty junky (imo) |
The only time my kids drink coke is when we are visiting family in Mexico - I love coke made with sugar, so I indulge and let my kids indulge a little, too.
A couple times a week, my youngest drinks flavored seltzer. |
I don,'t buy it and none is in the house. However, they are in college and I have no control over what they drink but none when they were young. It is sugar and caffeine and totally useless calories. |
Very little. It doesn’t actually taste that good if you aren’t exposed to the ads. They would rather have lemonade.
I bought a coke for my 12 year old the other day as kind of a joke when he jinxed me. It got passed around all of the kids for a couple of days during a round of jinxing before DH finally threw it out. No one actually wanted to drink any of it. |
