Our concern is the teeth as well. Soda in moderation is not a big deal (nutrition wise) for active healthy eaters. |
No soda. They are 6 and almost 9. |
My kids, ages 8 and 10, will drink about 5 or 6 San Pellegrino sodas every summer. We started getting them with lobster rolls at a place near our RI beach house about two years ago, and honestly, it's so infrequent I don't see any harm in it. Right?
We never purchase soda at home. My son likes sparkling water with splash of mango nectar and my daughter prefers a lime squeeze. That's their "soda treat" and we do that a few times a week after school with SkinnyPop. Some of the kids we pod with tried it and they love it too (but I don't think they drink soda so maybe they don't know the difference?). You can also dilute San Pellegrino with sparkling water (2/3 soda to 1/3 water) and the kids have no idea. Still tastes like soda! ....j/k you crazy people. I have a bunch of Pepsi and Coke and Sprite and Dr. Pepper in my house. Drink what you like, in moderation, and brush your teeth after soda. |
They don't eat junkfood, and yes, they feel the same way about the other stuff, too. FWIW, I don't care what you choose to feed your kids. |
we've never had soda in the house. Maybe the kids drink it elsewhere. My kids are 20,19, 18. |
I don’t buy it. It doesn’t come in the house. It doesn’t appear at school or activities. If it appears at a birthday party, I’m not the only one seeking an alternative or to limit the amount. |
It’s not about the sugar content. The acid eats away at enamel. |
It still has carbonation, which is terrible for teeth. |
Well, the 9yo is researching nutrition as part of her health for homeschooling this year. She has requested a switch to coconut and almond flour for cookies (to decrease the carbohydrates, because she’s not willing to get rid of sugar), and we’re now making our own popsicles from Greek yogurt and fruit, instead of buying ice cream. She also wants to increase nuts, beans and fish, cut out all red meat and decrease poultry. I’m completely fine with all of the above. Kindergarten isn’t, but I’m also fine with a 9yo making healthier decisions for herself. |
Close to none. Maybe once a month, if that. |
Very very little soda. Likely more fruit juice then I’d like but I do water it down. |
Maybe not healthy by your definition, but enjoy your water and rice cakes! |
My 7yo has tried Coke once (loved it) and Sprite once (hated it). She has never really seemed that interested in it. |
Daughter is nearly 12. Probably averages once a week- we get takeout or restaurant food or a small BBQ that often. I drink soda with the same frequency. |
10 year old never, not interested. 8 year old will have a sip of my husband’s when he has it, which is maybe once a week. Also, 8 year old could have it at parties but i don’t think it was ever served at parties at 7 and younger and she only went to a few 8th birthdays before COVID hit. People aren’t exactly chucking sodas at cars in the countless drive-by birthdays. ![]() |
