How much soda do your kids drink?

It has always been a struggle cause we don’t allow it unless it’s a very special occasion. We don’t have it in the house and order lemonade at restaurants. I think it depends on the age of the kids and the demographic.

Lemonade. It is as bad as soda in terms of sugar, sometimes worse. I get that it is a restaurant treat when you are out but it isn’t better than soda. My kids are still young but so far we only do water or milk. We are not a no sugar family by any means, we believe in moderation and avoiding drinking calories.

Actually, lemonade is better for teeth than carbonated soda, seltzer, etc.

Do they also feel the same way about cookies or ice cream? What does age have to do with it? Yes it is way too much sugar but the same can be said about other treats.

They don't eat junkfood, and yes, they feel the same way about the other stuff, too. FWIW, I don't care what you choose to feed your kids.

Are there people who aren’t on tv who just have cookies and cake and ice cream in their house all the time?

No soda in this house, although if my kid was at an event or party (not happening these days) I wouldn't worry about her having it. We do have several kinds of popsicles and ice cream in the house at all times. Right now, we also have gingersnaps and I might make cake today.

I posted about the 9yo who is making healthier choices. She bakes at least once per week, and we make frozen yogurt from Greek yogurt and fruit at least once per week. She can make more anytime she wants to do so, and we previously had ice cream in the house at all times (limited ingredient, but still ice cream).

One of her current ideas is to macerate fruit (and sometimes herbs), then soak it in water in the refrigerator overnight. She's using the macerated fruit for baking while she drinks the water. I have no objection to her experimenting, and I'm certainly not going to limit her cooking and baking. DO I want her to make more than we can reasonably eat in a few days? No, but that has more to do with wastage and freezer burn.

Age 12.5

No soda, no fast food (fast food = a place a car can drive through, not eating out at a restaurant just to be clear )

There was a year or so where DS did ask for Sprite when we were at a restaurant but that doesnt really happen anymore (pre pandemic). We don't drink it and we don't buy it for the house. I've never seen soda at a birthday party that I can think of.

When he goes to sleep away camp, they have soda/gatorade at the camp store and I told him I don't care if he has one a day as long as its not diet because the chemical sweetener creeps me out.

During meals at home we drink water, juice or he'll have almond milk.
