Uh....yeah. The non-shthole countries out there, like Austria, hand out free masks to their citizens. Spain is handing them out at public transportation sites. I think even Turkey was handing them out. Meanwhile, in the great old US of A, our health care workers wear garbage bags and the government suggests you tie a t-shirt around your face.

And what about people who can't afford to buy or make their own masks? What are the homeless supposed to do? This is a community problem (as all health care issues are) - if one person can't get a mask, and that asymptomatic person has to get back to work, that undermines everything. ESPECIALLY since no one seems to know how to properly use a face mask anyway. Have you seen what people are doing at the grocery stores with their masks? Hannity on Fox was discussing how you could eat a hot dog and drink a beer with a mask on....this country is an absolute disaster, on so many levels. The lack of plan for even basic face masks is just the tip of the iceberg and represents the larger, ONGOING failure that is going to keep us having rolling lockdowns for at least a year if not longer.

Exactly. The supply of masks on Etsy isn't going to cut it if we really want to "flip the switch" and are sincere about requiring everyone to wear a mask. Why aren't state and local governments recruiting people like dry cleaners to start making masks, and handing them out? I assume that cloth mask production will ramp up eventually and they'll be available more easily, but it's disconcerting, to say the least, that there's not even any discussion about it.

Dude. There is NO REGULAR SUPPLY of masks, anywhere. Nobody is manufacturing them, or even ordering them from China and putting them into the US supply chain. "Buy a mask" is like "let them eat cake." In contrast, the government of Taiwan (you know, where they knocked down COVID without having to shut down their economy) is distributing multiple disposible surgical masks weekly to everyone who lives there.

If you're a PP complaining about how Democrats just don't care about the economy and we have to reopen RIGHT NOW ... this just goes to show that you have zero plan other than yes, just letting everyone get COVID at once. I'm honestly so pissed by the failure of the US government that I kind of want to go protest with the Tea Partiers in Michigan. I don't think it would be that hard to make common cause with them. They're responding to the reality that the US government does not appear to have any functioning plan other than "stay at home."

I don't think you grasp how difficult this is. I don't know your set up, but I have no natural areas in walking distance and my house is small. My pay was cut 20%. My kids miss school and friends. I've been mostly at home and in my neighborhood since March 10. The emergency was the only time I've been in anywhere in weeks and now I'm jacked up because of my health. Mental health is the next thing to go and, hence, I will likely run amok here in a minute,

Try yoga or something to cut your percolating anxiety.

I will try it. This is my first experience with anxiety. If I had even a vague hope of things easing up soon, I would feel much better.

Try an app like Headspace or something similar.

Many counties also have mental heath advice and hotlines. I’m in Fairfax, so I know it’s listed on our Fairfax County govt site, I’m sure your county might have something similar.

If you have health insurance, many of them also have started new mental health advice lines. It’s free.

Sometimes it helps to look at the big picture, these few weeks or months are really just a very small piece of your life. Things will get back to normal but it may just not be on your timeline. I’m definitely thinking whatever medical issue you had has added onto your stress causing this anxiety. Focus on being in the moment and thankful for the little things.

Are they expecting people to ride metro with t-shirts wrapped around their heads? I know this might seem like a small thing, but to me it symbolizes the complete lack of planning or even an attempt to plan.
