So how far is the DMV from Phase 1 opening?

We live in VA and hoping for May 8. DH works in DC. Assuming that DC, VA and MD will coordinate openings since so many of us live and work across state and city lines.

DH thinks June 1.

What are you envisioning happening on May 8?

That is when VA’s executive order ends for non essential businesses to close.

Might as well prepare yourselves for June 1 or later if you think you can emotionally stand it, and then be pleasantly surprised.

Also emotionally and otherwise prepare yourselves for another shutdown 2-4 weeks after things open up.

Once things open up there's no going back. I highly doubt most people will stand for another shutdown. govt. will have to make it work somehow.

You clearly have not been paying attention. Officials have been talking about waves of viral resurgance for weeks and most Asian countries have already experienced it.

Va has a stay at home order until June 10, so that may push it back a little. Also note that schools, daycares, and camps are in phase 2, so people going back to work in the office may not happen until phase 2 when they have care for their kids.

Nothing is opening up anytime soon. My dh’s federal building just finally closed to everyone this week, and those who were in the office last week are currently quarantined because someone who was there just tested positive.

How on earth are they talking about opening up when things are still shutting down and 2,000 people in the US are dying each day? It’s too soon.

I feel like they can open up stores, etc. while the majority of people work from home. I work for a massive company that has one (or more) offices in every state and I would wager that 90% of us can easily work from home, the other 10% can limit their time in the office or easily social distance while there due to the fact that many others can WFH.

Go ahead and open the stores and restaurants but they will still suffer. It's going to be a while before traffic is more than 25% of normal.
