Michael Osterholm Ph.D., M.P.H. says washing hands and wipes are bogus — the AIR has this virus

Not staying home. Out and about in the fresh air getting exercise.

you stay OP if you are so scared. My family and I are not.

If it were truly airborne, a lot more people would already be sick, here and around the world.

Exactly. Tons more healthcare workers would be sick too. They are only wearing N95 masks and gowns IN the patient rooms.

These kinds of illnesses have been happening when seasons change. Right now the world is hotter and wetter...conditions that will result in a blooming of microbes of all sorts.

Yes, it is in the air. But hygiene practices like washing hands and wearing masks and not congregating together - lowers the VIRUS LOAD in your body. Also prevents CO-INFECTIONS with other stuff like eColi, Listeria, etc etc etc.

Which means that your wonderful body will fight and recover if it is a small skirmish instead of a full fledged WWIII

Omg stop. It was false info lies they fed us because there aren't any masks.

What he stated is not inaccurate. Person to person spread is the main vector and the virus is only airborne in medical contexts related to equipment.

https://www.who.int/news-room/commentaries/detail/modes-of-transmission-of-virus-causing-covid-19-implications-for-ipc-precaution-recommendations

If you are concerned enough about this to panic, please defer to CDC and WHO. The science is all we have to go on and any vaccines that will be created will be based on the science.

Re: mask shortages and messaging: yes, federal and state governments are still advising that N95 are to be reserved for healthcare staff who are fit tested for them.

No arguments here- just presenting facts.

Why?

Why?! Because YOU don’t agree with it? People are entitled to their opinions. You don’t have to agree.

No, because this board, on a good non covid day, is filled with panicked people thinking they are dying from nonsense. All this thread is doing is making overly anxious people lose even more marbles. It is not airborne, in the true definition of what an airborne virus is. The end. This has already been looked into and studied over and over.

What this proves is it’s safer to stay indoors and get delivery instead of going to grocery stores, right?

Not proves meant to say, means.

Avoiding people and spaces helps but it’s likely our non-symptom kids are already carrying it into our homes. Again, it’s in the AIR we breathe — not our hands, food, a fork, a doorknob. This is why cruises infect everyone — the air circulates through same HVAC.

Osterholm is the director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy (CIDRAP) at the University of Minnesota and a Regents Professor, the McKnight Presidential Endowed Chair in Public Health, a Distinguished Teaching Professor in the Division of Environmental Health Sciences, School of Public Health, a professor in the Technological Leadership Institute, College of Science and Engineering, and an adjunct professor in the University of Minnesota Medical School.

Because people on cruises aren't touching the same stuff over and over?

Honestly, if it were truly airborne, everyone on a cruise would get it. Hundreds did but not thousands - that alone implies it is not airborne but rather requires some kind of close contact with respiratory droplets (which is not the same as “airborne”) or touching infected surfaces which is highly likely on a cruise ship.

Yes, being indoors with lots of other people is very high risk. Delivery is safer. If you go to a store, wear a mask.

So the whole world is wrong and this guy is right? It's in the air, let's just resume having fun!

Stay indoor. Follow health and hygiene practices. Self-isolate with your family.

If groceries are required and you are not getting delivery then make one trip every couple of weeks. Wear mask, go in and out as quickly as possible, sanitize and also pick up grocery items for neighbors. Make your trip count. Help others so that more people can stay indoors.

Phil Collins predicted all of this 40 years ago with his debut hit.

But we weren't ready to hear the message.

No. If it is air borne it will be in the air in the bags and packaging of things that get delivered. Air borne virus are extremely infectious. 6 feet social distancing will not work, everyone who was on an airplane would be infected, etc. home delivery of groceries will not protect you from an air borne virus.
