Michael Osterholm Ph.D., M.P.H. says washing hands and wipes are bogus — the AIR has this virus

Anonymous
The most popular podcast on iTunes right now is this man. He said there’s no way to limit your exposure. Avoiding people and spaces helps but it’s likely our non-symptom kids are already carrying it into our homes. Again, it’s in the AIR we breathe — not our hands, food, a fork, a doorknob. This is why cruises infect everyone — the air circulates through same HVAC.

Osterholm is the director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy (CIDRAP) at the University of Minnesota and a Regents Professor, the McKnight Presidential Endowed Chair in Public Health, a Distinguished Teaching Professor in the Division of Environmental Health Sciences, School of Public Health, a professor in the Technological Leadership Institute, College of Science and Engineering, and an adjunct professor in the University of Minnesota Medical School.

This makes sense to me, thanks for the reference.

Yes, people catch colds in winter because the virus is there, everywhere. This virus is the same.

Yep. Makes total sense.

I don't think that is what he said.

He does say that as of right now, you don’t necessarily need to avoid going to restaurants unless you are in the high risk group. There may come a time for that, but that time isn’t here yet.

"I think the primary thing about hand washing is legitimate," he says. "People want to feel like they're doing something, so we tell them 'wash your hands often to prevent this disease', but I feel we're not being very honest with people. The data is really just about breathing air, which we can't stop. So keep doing the hand washing, but don't think it's going to stop the disease."

Seriously stop!

We want to flatten the curve. Even if it is in our homes or the air we are spreading it by being out and about.

How hard is this to understand???

Dr. Fauci knows what he is talking about he's not reactionary he has science behind his thoughts.

Again flatten the curve and stay home!.

Or search his name and Joe Rogan on iTunes. He embarrasses the meathead Rogan’s “bro science” over and over.

So it’s ok to go to restaurants and dine out? Sweet.

TBH the hand washing thing has always seemed a bit trite to me (though I do it). Seems like it would only help you avoid picking it up from surface transmission (by washing it off before it reaches an orifice), which is only part of the problem. .

Tell politicians and media to STOP lying to people. The run on toilet paper, hand sanitizer, Clorox wipes and “just wash your hands and don’t touch your face” is all based on LIES. Tell the public this is in the air.

The reason we should have had masks available to every person in this country. They should have started making them in December. Instead they blame the victim- telling us they don't work. The citizens of this country are victims of the US failure. They knew China had all the masks months ago.

The economy needs to keep going. It will definitely slow for the next few months but it cannot stop.

Be sensible and avoid crowds. That doesn't mean we should lock down the US now.

washing hands and wipes keep most people from getting sick from other non-air-transmitting diseases, so most medical resources could be put to fighting air-transmitting diseases. that's my understanding of flattening the curve - not the Covid-19 curve, but the medical resources curve.
