Michael Osterholm Ph.D., M.P.H. says washing hands and wipes are bogus — the AIR has this virus

"I think the primary thing about hand washing is legitimate," he says. "People want to feel like they're doing something, so we tell them 'wash your hands often to prevent this disease', but I feel we're not being very honest with people. The data is really just about breathing air, which we can't stop. So keep doing the hand washing, but don't think it's going to stop the disease."

This is not the same as what OP said

Bull. It’s to intentionally fake empower (read: mislead) the public to pretend they/we have some control. We don’t. It’s already far too late for that.

Overwashing and overusing those alcohol wipes and gels dries out your hands and causes cracks which can get you sicker from other things.

are you saying washing hands and wipes won't help keep people from getting sick from other non-air-transmitting diseases?

He also says only N95-tier masks actually block out this virus. Most of the masks people are using are not cleansing the air.

Well it stays suspended in the air for 3 hours after someone coughs. So not quite airborne but a real problem.

Avoiding people and spaces helps but it’s likely our non-symptom kids are already carrying it into our homes. Again, it’s in the AIR we breathe — not our hands, food, a fork, a doorknob. This is why cruises infect everyone — the air circulates through same HVAC.

Osterholm is the director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy (CIDRAP) at the University of Minnesota and a Regents Professor, the McKnight Presidential Endowed Chair in Public Health, a Distinguished Teaching Professor in the Division of Environmental Health Sciences, School of Public Health, a professor in the Technological Leadership Institute, College of Science and Engineering, and an adjunct professor in the University of Minnesota Medical School.

Because people on cruises aren't touching the same stuff over and over?

So:

"It's in the air. The AIR! But keep eating at restaurants where it's in the air and people touch a lot of common items

Reducing your risk by 50% is better than nothing.

People are still learning a lot about the virus. It’s very new. If the vast majority of health experts say that I can help prevent illness by washing my hands more than usual, I’m not taking a chance based on one guy who says otherwise, even though he could be right.

Agreed. That's why I'm washing hands throughout the day and immediately upon entering my house, hand sanitizing in the interim while in the car, and running a clorox wipe over my steering wheel, seatbelt, gear shift, other frequently touched car interior spaces, and car door handle daily. And ordering as much as I can online to avoid going to stores (though I know that may be endangering the delivery people who drop it off on the porch if they touch things). Oh, and wiping door knobs with clorox wipes or spraying them with lysol. It sounds OCD, I know, and I'm burning through my products quickly with these practices, but I believe in doing everything I reasonably can to minimize my risks.

Or search his name and Joe Rogan on iTunes. He embarrasses the meathead Rogan’s “bro science” over and over.

Okay guess there is “feminist science”
