Yeah, I think I'll keep using my car the way it was intended to be used. If you're right that it's so insanely dangerous, eventually they will be phased out. Maybe you should direct your efforts towards lobbying the federal government to not allow these systems in US cars, rather than posting on an anonymous forum equating using a voice command system to smoking. |
No, I'm primarily directing my efforts towards lobbying my state legislators to make and enforce laws against distracted driving. People were using their cigarettes the way they were intended to be used, too. Nonetheless, cigarette smoke increases the chance of lung cancer for you and for the people around you, just as distracted driving increases the chance of crashes for you and the people around you. My kid walks on the roads you drive on. I want you to pay attention to driving when you drive. |
Exactly. What's the point of arguing back and forth and getting all stressed when you know folks are going to do what they wanna do regardless? Do people run red lights nowadays even though its against the law? YES. And often times they do it just out of hurry/arrogance, they're not even holding a damn phone. Do people drive 100mp nowadays even though it well exceeds posted speed limits? YES. And often times they do it out of hurry/arrogance, they're not even holding a damn phone. So what you getting stressed arguing with folks on here for? You ain't gonna change nobody's mind - they're gonna do what they wanna do UNTIL they get arrested or end up in a twisted mangled flaming wreck on the side of the road. Either way it's not worth stressing about. |
They're gonna do what they wanna do until they end up killing me, someone in my family, my neighbor, my co-worker, my child's classmate... I'd like to prevent that from happening. |
And did you not see where I mentioned that often times they do it just out of hurry/arrogance, they're not even holding a damn phone? Yeah...those reckless people on the road who aren't distracted by cellphones can just as easily end up killing you, someone in your family, your neighbor, your co-worker, or your child's classmate too. What you gonna do? You gonna walk around with your sphincter twisted in a knot with anxiety 24/7? |
Right. 1. I'm not holding my phone. I'm using a voice command system. So people need to stop it with the whole "put your phone down" nonsense. 2. I use all of my car's available safety features, including things like adaptive cruise control in stop and go traffic, which makes it MUCH less likely I'll hit your car. 3. I have a feeling these super angry people are more likely to get into a road rage-induced accident than I am, while I'm driving calmly. |
I'm going to work on laws and enforcement, road design, and education with the purpose of having drivers injure and kill fewer people on the roads (in cars, on foot, on bikes, whatever). Part of that is focusing on distracted driving. And hands-free PP notwithstanding, hands-free driving is distracted driving - just like driving after a few beers or glasses of wine is impaired driving. |
Cool. And I hope you don't do ANYTHING that can distract you. No listening to the radio, talking to other passengers, etc. To avoid blatant hypocrisy, you should drive in 100% silence at all times. |
Good for you. Just make sure you don't get stressed because accidents continue to happen even when there are no phones, radios, or hand-free devices involved. Sometimes idiots just put the pedal to the metal for the hell of it. Sometimes idiots just run a red light for the hell of it. Sometimes idiots just change lanes without signaling and slam on their brakes without warning for the hell of it. |
That's the "you're not even allowed to say the words "climate change" unless you live in an off-the-grid yurt and eat nothing but clover" argument. |
Nah, it's just that if someone is going to be this self-righteous, they better be on good behavior themselves. |
| Guessing the people in favor of this further nanny-state effort haven't heard of the laws already prohibiting negligent driving and failure to give full time and attention. Just more eyewash and another excuse for pretextual stops. |
HaHaHa!!! |
Bingo. Hands feee or not, is completely irrelevant. It's the fact that your mind is on something else besides driving the car. It distracting. So is fiddling with voice commands. So is listening to the radio. So is talking to passengers. So is anything else that doesnt involve safely driving the car. And they all have to stop. All of it. Phones, navigation, radios, eating, yacking to others while driving. It needs to stop. And if people won't do it on their own because it's the safest thing to do, then they need to be compelled through heavy fines or jail time for repeat offenders. |
