It sounds like it. Which sounds crazy to our ears, but isn't crazy in Norway, apparently.

The culture in Norway is much more about the government being in control and providing benefits as opposed to the family unit. A lot of couples aren’t even married before they have kids and most benefits come from the government. It’s a different way of living.

This is very...not accurate.

How? It’s absolutely accurate.

There are so many rules and laws in Norway. There are even laws about how long cows have to be outside each day.

It’s absolutely a fact that the government provides most of the benefits. Also that a lot of educated people aren’t married before having kids. Women tend to be more independent and culturally Norwegian men don’t support women. There isn’t a lot of benefit to the average woman to getting married since parental leave is provided by the government and most couples split their housing payments 50/50.

I was too late to type “cue DCUMer who would move there in a heartbeat” 😆

Foster care (contractors) is also a big business in Nordic countries.

I am sure a profit motive benefits the rearing of children.

I hope this ^is sarcasm. I don’t know about Norway, but in the USA everyone financially benefits from foster care (social workers, foster parents, therapist, etc) except the actual children. The children are used by everyone in the US and then discarded on the street at the age of 18, ill-equipped for nothing but poverty and homelessness

Families where at least one parent is of an immigrant background are usually the main victims of the system.

I was just going to say that this was clearly not written by a Norwegian. Good grief.

Maybe. I imagine it's probably much like the private prison system here in the US. Corporations have a vested interest in the government creating lots of low-level offenders than can be incarcerated profitably. The outcomes are largely irrelevant. Maintaining the supply of "clients" is the goal.

Norwegians are some of the most smug people I’ve ever met. They have very little ability to criticize anything about their culture or way of life. But if you actually live there, you can find many faults.

Has anyone seen this in the news or discussed anywhere? Is there more to the story they are not talking about in the articles?
How can Norway just plainly take 3 American citizen kids from their parents?

https://www1.cbn.com/cbnnews/cwn/2019/september/our-hearts-are-shattered-norway-takes-permanent-custody-of-3-american-children-from-christian-parents

https://www.lifesitenews.com/opinion/norway-is-stealing-children-from-their-parents-the-eu-government-noticed

I am surprised it is not getting publicized much. Any thoughts? Could it be because the parents were naturalized citizens, not born Americans?

I hear stories like these from Eastern Europeans about how it’s very easy to have kids taken away in Scandinavia because what is culturally normal in Eastern Europe is considered abuse there.

Kind of like the NGOs/Catholic Charities keeping the flow of "refugees" going across the border?

You move to another country, you have to follow their laws. Particularly very homogeneous countries.

To be fair, it was all over spanking but if you're going to move to a new country you have to obey their laws. The couple previously lived in Atlanta, GA.

Is the point of posting a picture of the family somehow to prove that they look pretty and happy, and therefore it was wrong for their kids to be taken away?
