The articles in the OP were about a totally different family. There are no updates on that other family. |
| Am I missing something? The kids were permanently taken away from their parents because they were spanked? |
It sounds like it. Which sounds crazy to our ears, but isn't crazy in Norway, apparently. |
I was hoping there was more to the story. Wow. I would have been put in foster care as a child. Puts a shiver down my spine. |
The culture in Norway is much more about the government being in control and providing benefits as opposed to the family unit. A lot of couples aren’t even married before they have kids and most benefits come from the government. It’s a different way of living. |
This is very...not accurate. |
How? It’s absolutely accurate. There are so many rules and laws in Norway. There are even laws about how long cows have to be outside each day. It’s absolutely a fact that the government provides most of the benefits. Also that a lot of educated people aren’t married before having kids. Women tend to be more independent and culturally Norwegian men don’t support women. There isn’t a lot of benefit to the average woman to getting married since parental leave is provided by the government and most couples split their housing payments 50/50. |
But their state is benevolent and provides children with rights, benefits and an upbringing free of spanks and wallops? |
Call me crazy but I think I'm happier to have been able to stay with my parents over a spank free existence in foster care. |
Foster care (contractors) is also a big business in Nordic countries. |
I am sure a profit motive benefits the rearing of children. |
My parents spanked me too, but if it had been illegal they simply wouldn't have done it. |
I hope this ^is sarcasm. I don’t know about Norway, but in the USA everyone financially benefits from foster care (social workers, foster parents, therapist, etc) except the actual children. The children are used by everyone in the US and then discarded on the street at the age of 18, ill-equipped for nothing but poverty and homelessness |
Just like how no one drinks before age 21 right? And no one speeds? |
|
I would move to Norway in a heartbeat.
Dear Norway, My parents spanked me. Please let me in! |
