3 American kids are permanently taken from parents by Norway

The government in Norway has more power over its citizens than the US government. There are rules and laws about everything in Norway. The government provided substantial benefits but is in charge of everything in return. Everyone is expected to live their life the same way and fit in.

Under Norwegian laws I would be taken away by the child authorities and my parents investigated.

Rather scary when I think about it.

I agree and I was only mildly spanked too. Frankly, some kids need it. My sister was wild and one time she tried to run into a main street (this was not the first time). She was a second from being killed by a passing car. My mom had finally grabbed her shirt before she was in the street, then she got spanked. She never ran out in the street again.

You are wrong. You are perpetuating child abuse with comments like that. Many children of all different sorts of personalities are successfully raised without ever being hit. No kid NEEDS to be hit. I can’t even believe this is a debate in a modern country 2022. I mean honestly WTF?

100% agree.
You said that it was not the first time your sister did that. So your mom KNEW she was likely to do this--why wasn't she holding your sister's hand or taking other measures to make sure it didn't happen. Your mother FAILED as a parent and then physically assaulted her own child!

And yet these same religious conservative Rs are constantly berating immigrants in the US for not assimilating and adhering to US laws. The hypocrisy of these people knows no bounds.

This story is 2019. Any updates?

Not that rare in the US. We put children in concentration camps. https://www.splcenter.org/news/2022/03/23/family-separation-timeline

I'm not meaning to do whataboutism here and if family separations are happening unjustly in Norway then that's a problem. But it's absolutely not "rare" in the US -- it's so common and blatant that many of us took to the streets to protest that it was happening.

Norwegians are civilized and don’t believe in beating up children to make them behave. If only the US were as forward-thinking.

Crappy parents who can’t raise good kids without perpetrating violence on them should not have kids in the first place.

To be fair, it was all over spanking but if you're going to move to a new country you have to obey their laws. The couple previously lived in Atlanta, GA.

They give off a Dugger IBLP vibe. They are beating their kids. No doubt.

That photo reminds me of a family photo shoot I witnessed where the mom said stand still and smile or you will be spanked. They got a great photo, but now I can never look at these "perfect" family photos without thinking of that moment and feeling really sad for the kids.

Ugh, take Norway off the list of places to travel with the kids to.

Since when was popping a kid on their bottom classified as "beating up children"?

Norway is now off….

Thank God that we still have Somalia! It’s getting harder every day to find a place where a good old fashioned God fearing family can beat their kids as much as they want to!!

Yes. I see how you use language to diminish and justify your abusive actions from those “other” really abusive people.

Are you assuming you know more than the Norwegian authorities? We are only getting the parent view since the Norwegian government hasn’t commented. I would think reunification would be high on their list of priorities, so maybe the situation is more dire than we know.
