Celebrating Everyone but actual mother's on mother's day?

Anonymous
I kind of hate mother's day. A day where I have to spend a big lead up doing stuff for the grandmothers, including remembering to call all 3 of them so they all feel welcome.

I do like that generally DH tries to give me a lighter load, lets me sleep in, and spent some extra time with me. That made me feel good, but the stress leading up to the day is too much. I'd rather we kill it.

Especially since as a mother in the thick of it I feel like I'm at the bottom of the totem pole and needing to be lumped in with 'dog moms'. And I'm a dog mom! But if its not ACTUALLY going to be MOTHER'S day then let's just not do it. Or call it 'woman's day' which is what it seemed like people wanted it to be yesterday.

This is true for every major holiday. Christmas, Thanksgiving, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Valentine's Day, Columbus Day, heck even July 4 has recently become fraught.

Either whatever it is is worth celebrating or its not. And if it is then its worth not diluting its meaning to the point of nothingness. I really don't care one way or another, but as other people mentioned, if there was something like this for Veteran's Day no one would put with something like this.

Of course the day celebrating moms gets diluted and spread out to every person under the son, just like a mom herself!

1) Birth moms who placed their children for adoption
2) People estranged from their moms
3) People who have dead moms
4) Moms with incarcerated children (or vice versa).

Every day can be hard for anyone. Let’s celebrate when we can. Be aware of others, yes, but...live!

I do think its weird, but also wondering how it affects you directly? If you own family is celebrating you, then really who cares. If your sister the "dog mom" is upstaging your mother's day, then complain away, I'm with you

Too sensitive?

We can celebrate mothers day as we want.

For dog moms, cat moms, it's cute, they choose that lifestyle and are happy.

The world is overpopulated because rich people are getting richer and the poor poorer. And they have lots of kids in the streets living in misery. But happy I guess, they are grateful for what little they have.

People nowadays in this country are smarter and are having kids later after 30s or 40s

It was started as a Mother’s Peace day. It developed later into the hallmark holiday.

Someone else celebrating does not take away from my celebration.

I enjoy the day with my family, and a little extra attention, and and not affected by what ANYONE else is doing for the day.

It made me mad as hell when I saw a relative post Happy Mother’s Day to her daughter (teen mom) who lost custody of her child due to drug abuse. The bar is in hell.
