'China putting minority Muslims in 'concentration camps,' U.S. says

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States accused China on Friday of putting well more than a million minority Muslims in “concentration camps,” in some of the strongest U.S. condemnation to date of what it calls Beijing’s mass detention of mostly Muslim Uighur minority and other Muslim groups.

This is huge, and heavily under reported. Maybe because it doesn't fit anyone's narrative? One of the scariest examples of religious/ethnic persecution in the world today - right not interested because victims are Muslims, left not interested because perps are not white.

It is about time the US said something about this.

Is this thread the latest “let’s hate on Christians” thread of the week? Started at the beginning of the week? Check. Started by an atheist? Check. Oh, the irony. And before you jump up my nose, I’d never claim that Christians are persecuted in the US. The report you link to is about Christians and places like Pakistan and China.

This is the truth. Women suffer more than any other group at the hands of Christian, Jewish and Muslim men.

I think it is Orthodox Christians. Please explain why I am wrong? So I don't mess up the trade with the Middle East? Is that why newspapers barely report about it? Funny how Protestants don't count Orthodox Christians as Christians. Nothing changed since the crusades.

Are you citing 1941 to try to discredit the notion that Jews today continue to be targeted? That's shameful.

Globally, I don't know, but in the US Jews experience more hate crimes per capita than any other minority group, according to the FBI. That is NOW, not in 1941 or 1960.

Oh -- we're also the most targeted minority group in Canada, on a per capita basis.

You are citing hate crimes, not religious persecution. For all your yelling about it, you never even lived in Europe or anywhere else than the US. Who has attacked you personally? Your suffering is not even close to the suffering of many other groups today. And weirdly, let's talk about Jewish persecution of Palestinians, how is it that nobody is allowed to talk about it? You are not persecuted in the US. The end. You face a hate crime here and there and enjoy state supported religious freedom and have enjoyed it for over 100 years.

Ok, I'm going to take your points one by one:

1. Hate crimes are one form of religious persecution. They are literally crimes done out of HATRED for a particular group (religious, racial, ethnic, etc.). Jews are victims of hate crimes (aka a form of religious persecution) more often than any other group, per capita. Are you unaware of the cases in which we have been GUNNED DOWN while praying? You are so dismissive by saying "you face a hate crime here and there."

2. How do you know where I've lived? I am from the US, but have lived in Russia and Thailand. Don't assume things about me.

3. I HAVE been attacked personally for being a Jew, and on multiple occasions, including in the US. My family members escaped pogroms in Russia and Ukraine. Again -- don't make assumptions about me.

NP here, Jewish persecution pales in its comparison of its persecution to Palestinians. Quite frankly, it’s appalling that Western jewish people can fight for the civil rights of LGBT and wholly ignore the Palestianian persecution in Israel.

Yep, we are supposed to support the Palestinians, who lost a war, and then regularly launch rockets at Israeli civilians. There are no good guys in that conflict. The dems and Republicans have brainwashed people into picking "their" side.

Atheist regimes like Hitler, Stalin and Mao were responsible for millions of deaths. Hitler slaughtered 11 million, Stalin only 2 or 3. Mao really took the cake though with a staggering 45 million. Atheists..

I’m the PP who talked about assumptions and here’s one more: I don’t ignore persecution of Palestinians. I won’t set foot in Israel in large part because of the Israeli government’s treatment of Palestinians. But sure — let’s make assumptions about what I think.

Yeah I’ll correct that for the PP: 23 million, at least.

While not highly religious, Hitler was a Catholic and did not make Atheism a state belief. "Gott Mitt Uns" remained the slogan of the Werhmacht and the Waffen SS.

The other two were monsters, but their actions had nothing to do with Atheism. The same way you can't blame slavery on Christianity per se, even though nearly all the slave owners were Christian.

Your statement is intended to be incendiary and incite religious bias and you should be ashamed.

Yes, Statin’s persecution of religious groups did have “something to do with Atheism.” And so did Hitler’s persecution of Catholics. Read a book, moron. You’re the one who should be ashamed.

^^^ Stalin’s

JFC, people will bend of backwards to deny Christians have been targeted for their beliefs in the modern era. It’s disgusting.

The number seems to vary widely. One would be too many

Christians were also responsible for ending slavery. Not atheists.
