Christians are 'most persecuted group'

'China putting minority Muslims in 'concentration camps,' U.S. says

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States accused China on Friday of putting well more than a million minority Muslims in “concentration camps,” in some of the strongest U.S. condemnation to date of what it calls Beijing’s mass detention of mostly Muslim Uighur minority and other Muslim groups.

This is huge, and heavily under reported. Maybe because it doesn't fit anyone's narrative? One of the scariest examples of religious/ethnic persecution in the world today - right not interested because victims are Muslims, left not interested because perps are not white.

I think it is Orthodox Christians. Please explain why I am wrong? So I don't mess up the trade with the Middle East? Is that why newspapers barely report about it? Funny how Protestants don't count Orthodox Christians as Christians. Nothing changed since the crusades.

Are you citing 1941 to try to discredit the notion that Jews today continue to be targeted? That's shameful.

Globally, I don't know, but in the US Jews experience more hate crimes per capita than any other minority group, according to the FBI. That is NOW, not in 1941 or 1960.

What a moronic thing to say. I had two grandfathers in concentration camps. The linked article talks about the Middle East and other countries and about today. Where do you get the idea of discrediting the Holocaust? Orthodox Christian persecution doesn't take away from Jewish suffering, but again we are talking about today. Do you know why in Europe we talk about the Holocaust all the time? Why there would be outrage if Germans stopped teaching their own children about it in schools? Not because kids today are to blame for it, but they will be to blame if it happens again. Let's talk about persecution today of Christians in the Middle East, why are you so stuck on hate crimes here? Topic is something else entirely, and I am not OP. US and Canada, sure, but is it that hard for you to read a few articles about the world today?
Do you even realize that there were concentration camps during WWII for Orthodox Christians? Still not on par with the Jewish persecution, but very much the truth. I am the one that posted that the world never talks about Jewish persecution in every single century in Europe! And how that is shameful.
But, again, talking about today does not minimize the facts of yesteryear's nor what is happening in the US. Christians persecuted today are among the poorest people in the world, why is this not in the news? For exact reasons the U.S. turned ships of fleeing Jews during WWII away, it is bad for the economy and nobody cares about some far away, maybe not quite "white" people. Don't even get me started of Egypt having black slaves well into 19th century, and persecutions of Sudanese and their own black population. Nobody in their right mind would try to discredit the Holocaust, but why aren't you able to read about TODAY? You do understand that hate crimes in the US and Canada are bad, but not on par with persecution and mass murders around the world?

Your post is totally jumbled, so I'm not clear on what your point is. However, let me make a few things clear:

1. I am Jewish, as is my husband. We both have relatives who died in the Holocaust and others who survived it. My great grandparents escaped pogroms in Russia and Ukraine to come to NYC in the 1910s. I am well aware of Jewish persecution both then and today, so I'm not really clear on why you keep yelling at me about why I can't read about today.

2. I posted articles about Jewish persecution today, so again -- why are you accusing me of not being able to read about current events?

3. Nothing I said was meant to take away from or diminish persecution against Christians; I'm simply responding to a PP who asked for current statistics on persecuted groups. The reality is Jews remain the most common victim of hate crimes, per capita, in the US, Canada, and most of Europe. That, again, is not meant to minimize what is happening to other groups (Christians in the Middle East, Uighurs in China, Tibetan Buddhists, etc.), but many posters on this thread have questioned whether Jews are "really" being persecuted. I was trying to correct that notion.

You accused pp of citing 1941 to discredit Jewish persecution today. Then you quoted hate crimes in US and Canada. Who is persecuting Jews today, not committing hate crimes, in the US?

You are citing hate crimes, not religious persecution. For all your yelling about it, you never even lived in Europe or anywhere else than the US. Who has attacked you personally? Your suffering is not even close to the suffering of many other groups today. And weirdly, let's talk about Jewish persecution of Palestinians, how is it that nobody is allowed to talk about it? You are not persecuted in the US. The end. You face a hate crime here and there and enjoy state supported religious freedom and have enjoyed it for over 100 years.

Ok, I'm going to take your points one by one:

1. Hate crimes are one form of religious persecution. They are literally crimes done out of HATRED for a particular group (religious, racial, ethnic, etc.). Jews are victims of hate crimes (aka a form of religious persecution) more often than any other group, per capita. Are you unaware of the cases in which we have been GUNNED DOWN while praying? You are so dismissive by saying "you face a hate crime here and there."

2. How do you know where I've lived? I am from the US, but have lived in Russia and Thailand. Don't assume things about me.

3. I HAVE been attacked personally for being a Jew, and on multiple occasions, including in the US. My family members escaped pogroms in Russia and Ukraine. Again -- don't make assumptions about me.

You might want to familiarize yourself with the definition of religious persecution.

It fits both situations where religious groups are targeted by the government and situations where religious groups are targeted by other groups in society.

Hate crimes are absolutely a form of religious persecution.

No reason to think it isn't true, unless you think that the US is the center of the universe.

But I suppose that in some of the countries persecuting Christians, they can't persecute the Jews anymore.

When did I say orthodox Christians don’t experience persecution?! What’s your point?
Anonymous
Yes, OP, Christians are the most persecuted across the world, though many news sources refuse to accurately report it. There was a prominent former Muslim, now atheist who wrote heavily about her horror of Christian persecution in certain countries. Christian persecution looks different in the West. Christians are persecuted through social shame when they do not agree with the majority because of their beliefs. That does not occur for Muslims, Jews or other religions. For the West if Christians disagree on an issue it’s because they are intolerant.

NP here, Jewish persecution pales in its comparison of its persecution to Palestinians. Quite frankly, it’s appalling that Western jewish people can fight for the civil rights of LGBT and wholly ignore the Palestianian persecution in Israel.

Oh please. People saying Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas and legalizing gay marriage is not “persecution”. Hilarious that Fox News and the religious right call liberals snowflakes when they’re the first ones to claim persecution over perceived slights.
