Fiance - Cat Tension

One is hiding the other is swiping. He most likely did something to them OP. Possibly kicked or hit, sorry but those are the signs.

Tell that to my neighbor whose dog bit two kids, including her own baby, and she still has the dog.

Just like horrible kids...I'm sure it's not your neighbors fault the dog is that way, lol.

Your neighbor is insane. Any dog that bit my baby would be euthanized the same day.

That is insane. The dog is an animal and animals do unpredictable things. The onus would be on you for leaving your baby in that situation.

Yes and hopefully she doesn't have any pets.

A cat I used to have (RIP) was curious to indifferent about most people, but had a few that she hated. The common factor was actually that they tried too hard. They were people who liked cats and wanted to interact but she just wasn't into it and would hiss or growl when they tried. Near the end (though I didn't realize we were close to the end) she would hiss at one of her hated people unprovoked because she just did not want to deal with it. Has hissing kitty been to the vet lately? I'm assuming the hiding cat just hates the new stuff in the house and will get over it soon.

Side note, my cat would also sometimes attack me because she thought it was fun or because she needed to avenge some slight like me picking her up and moving her. Honestly she was kind of a dick. Some cats are. Fortunately she had endless patience with my children so I never had a to seriously consider getting rid of her.

I feel sorrry for OP's fiance. My husband doesn't know how lucky he is that I am not into having pets.

PP here. It is important that the fiance not being a cat person learns the proper etiquette of being around cats. It will save a lot of grief later on.

what is the proper etiquette? Serious question. I've just started with a cat after growing up with dogs. Cat seems to like my chasing her around and roughhousing with her, but also play-biting and batting me with claws retracted. DS complains I'm being "mean"

Seriously...how old are you? Repressed childhood?

Look, cats are sensitive. They need time to adjust.
Years ago, when I moved in with my fiancé, my beloved cat did not take it well. My cat would jump up on my fiance’s desk and squirt “ass juice.” Anal gland secretions. The foulest odor you will ever smell. This went on for a month or so. Eventually my Kitty came to be very happy there and loved my fiancé.

Give your cats some time. If you can, maybe put them in their own room with litter box and food for a few days to a week. Let them chill out in there and feel secure. You will probably find they are much happier after you do this.

Did you have to train your husband? Did you put cameras around the house to monitor him? Did you send him to a cat therapist?

Sometimes I wonder who are these people who post on here and how can they have functional lives.

Anonymous wrote:Cats can be strangely possessive. A friend of mine’s cat would pee in her boyfriend’s shoe when he was over her house. Give it time. And make sure you are still giving them plenty of attention. Maybe he can start feeding them and playing with them.

That's a good cat! If he sticks around after that, he might be a keeper.

Agree. It’s almost NEVER the dog’s fault for being a dog.

OP should not be dating someone who doesn’t like cats in the first place. Most people have strong opinions on them. I personally feel they are smelly, filthy creatures and could not live with them.

With a little effort the OP and fiancé can actually help the cats not live in constant stress. But you'd advocate for their doing nothing at all? OK then.

Yes, he leaves the cats alone, that is what cats want, and I had many cats, not once did I see a cat hiss at anyone just out of blue. This dude is not leaving the cats alone.

OP - keep in mind who you want to become. Do you want to be a normal person or one of the animal crazies that spend there time posting on-line about saving fur babies while living a lonely life.

Get rid of the cats.

Get rid of that fiancé, post haste.
