You mean back to when marriage equality didn’t exist, discrimination against the LGBT community wasn’t illegal anywhere, and being closeted was more the norm than the exception?

NP. Yes. Exactly this.

The friend has displayed a lot of narcissistic/dramatic tendencies in the past, but I am at a loss for this recent sexual-orientation announcement. I am trying to understand this sexual orientation and read this thread on a 6th grade pansexual student:

Not sure what I am asking, but my DD is a bit impressionable and I worry about this other child's influence on her regarding this issue. Is pansexuality kind of "trendy" right now? I am open-minded to young adults embracing their sexuality, but I have honestly never encountered anyone of this orientation.

The girl had a troubled childhood. Sad.

+1.

Not entirely accurate. Pansexuality is considered a more inclusive term than bisexuality, and indicates openness to those who do not identify with a gender binary (trans, intersex, etc). Some pansexuals also use the term to indicate openness toward polyamory/non-monogamy.

Omg enough

I assume you mean the people obsessed with policing a child’s sexual preference and wishing us back into the dark ages stigmatizing anyone who isn’t heterosexual, right? Because they’re the ones obsessing over what’s happening in other peoples bedrooms, while the lgbt community & allies are basically saying not to worry about it and move on with your life because this is not a big deal.

Think if all the homophobes channeled that hate into something productive like being better stewards of the environment or getting more exercise to be healthier or reading classic literature (not just Leviticus).

It's all because of social media- these kids really don't have to determine their sexuality at this young age but because it's posted everywhere they feel like they need to identify themselves. Too much information and they are all sucked in looking at crap all day instead of being carefree kids.

PP- and totally agree with the poster about China becoming the future because the up and coming generation looks at social media crap all day long.

I have to disagree here. We seem obsessed with labels and there is a new one everyday. An associate at work called a staff meeting just to discuss that we should all refer to “her” as “they.” A whole meeting about it. I have actual work to do and would love to let you be and move on with my life!

I’m sure there are a few bad apples and drama queens. In the end though, when someone declares their sexuality or gender identity, that’s the end and it only affects that person and their love interests. However, people who are bothered by having to see “the gays” being gay in public or who have to trouble themselves to use a different pronoun tend to be the one complaining and obsessing over it, when it really doesn’t affect them in any meaningful way. (I don’t see advocating for equal rights as an unhealthy obsession so I don’t see it as the same thing.)

Did someone speak up and tell her that this is grammatically incorrect?

Language evolves. This is no longer considered grammatically incorrect. Get over it.

No, everyone in the room is very progressive and supportive. I found it over the top indulgent. Mostly annoyed bc I had a shit ton of work to do and deadlines.

Only by total idiots is this considered grammatically acceptable. Sorry, cupcake. You don’t get to rewrite language

Agreed. As a Latina, I am very offended by the term "Latinx." It rhymes with Kleenex and doesn't work well with the Spanish language.

+1, another Latina who hates this term.
