Elementary Schools are not included in the boundary study...only middle schools that feed into Clarksburg, NW and SVHS along with the high schools themselves. |
Gibbs ES is currently in the Clarksburg cluster. If the boundary study rezones Gibbs ES to the Seneca Valley cluster, that will make PP so sad (for reasons PP has not explained). |
So for split matriculation ES, this doesn’t apply unless your zoned MS is included? Our zoned MS doesn’t feed into these HS, but part of our ES does. |
This presentation includes a list of the schools within the scope of the study: http://gis.mcpsmd.org/boundarystudypdfs/SVHS_PresentationPIM1.pdf |
In that case, the part of your ES that isn't zoned for the Clarksburg/SV/NW clusters is not part of the boundary study, but the part that is, is. This is in the presentation linked to by the PP: • No elementary school boundaries will change as part of this boundary study. • Elementary school service areas will be used as the building blocks for possible middle school and high school options. • Elementary schools assigned to Damascus, Quince Orchard and Watkins Mill clusters will not be part of this boundary study |

As we eagerly await the proposed boundaries for the three schools, I am interested in what you all 'hope' to see, boundary-wise.
What do you hope the new boundaries will look like? What about the student bodies at all 3 schools? |
| and, what will happen when the countywide boundary assessment study comes out? Will they redo it all again? |
No one knows this. But I firmly believe that Damascus HS should be part of the Clarksburg, NW, SVHS study, partly for this reason. |
OK. But it's not. |
While I recognize that SOMEONE will have to move because the county chose to expand that school, I know any part of NW or CL that gets moved will lose 10%+ of home value.... so I hope it's not my neighborhood. I am debating whether to sell preemptively and move, or wait it out and hope we are not touched. We live in the part of NW that was not originally part of the boundary study, and was recently added. I fear the worst. Frankly, given that all three schools offer different focus programs, ideally they should form a DCC-type conglamerate, so students who want cybersecurity can attend CL, students who wants biomed and AP Phys C can attend NW, and students who would benefit from vocational training (and we have many of those students! These are great programs) can attend SV. I think that approach would keep up the real estate prices more or less even, too. |
Oh good grief. Also, there is no part of Northwest that was "not originally part of the boundary study", since the boundary study was always going to include the entire Northwest cluster, the entire Seneca Valley cluster, and the entire Clarksburg cluster. The scope was changed to include all of the middle schools in all 3 clusters, instead of just the middle schools in the Seneca Valley cluster. |
What, you don't think that 10% home value reduction in NW- and CL-assigned homes that will get re-assigned to SV is true? Someone is going to get hit. Of course I hope it's not our neighborhood. |
I know that. Just simply stating my opinion and others as well. Why have a conversation about Clarksburg HS, Hallie Wells, and Rocky Hill when you're not involving DHS ( a school that has capacity, btw). If you're going to do this, do it right. |
Correct. |
Justify your opinion, please. I would like to think that moving to SV would not impact my property value. Then I can sell and move to a preferred school district when the times comes. Right now, my fear is that I will be stuck in SV because I won't be able to afford to sell at a 10% loss. Thanks. |
