I've heard they added middle schools as well because Darnestown ES might get moved to QO and goes to lakelands park ms with most of that middle school going to QO. I hope they move honestly I am not a fan of having them at our school - signed NW parent

MCPS should stop bussing Darnestown up to NW. Some of the houses that feed Darnestown are right down the road from QO and its rough to break up friend groups from MS to HS. So many kids from Darnestown peal off to private or try for COSAs that the left over kids go into NW without many friends.

Exactly. We are at LPMS right now and DD is in 7th grade. We are districted for NW but no way in hell is DD going there. We plan to meet with the principal of QO next year to discuss a COSA because that is DD's first choice over private, since that is where almost all her friends will be going. Sad that we already have to plan ahead for this. Few Darnestown kids go to NW any since most are in private or at QO.

lol

You think talking to the QO principal will pull your child into the school? Your kid is zoned for NW. Unless there's some bullying incident, NW it is! or, private . . .

+1. PP is severely mistaken about the way these things actually work. Just because a school is her DD’s “first choice” doesn’t mean she’ll actually go there if you’re not in the boundary.

I hope our neighborhood gets redistricted for SVHS!

Besides friends, why don’t you want her going to NW?

How come? I don't see any pluses for us. Hope to stay in NW.

There's definitely no way that the current LPMS kids who are currently assigned to NW will be moved to QO because QO isn't part of the boundary study. They confirmed this at tonight's meeting.

As a parent in one of the areas added last minute into the study, I of course worry that it is our area that will get axed into SV.

Education-wise I am indifferent because either the kid will get into Poolesville or we'll move to another area before kid hits HS. It is also possible that SV will get enriching science and IB programs, making it an acceptable choice for strong students. Financially, it will be better for resale if our home stays with the initial assignment. Clearly everyone has the same problem, and someone is going to lose big $$$, especially in the short term while SV tries to change its reputation.

MCPS does not, and should not, use property values (or, more accurately, people's perceived effects on their property values) as a factory in boundary decisions.

No one said that a-hole. They said someone will lose money and they will. Who the heck wants to go to SV or Gaithersburg?

We lost a lot when we got redistricted. Homes are 100K cheaper now and it sucks. I don’t wish that on anyone.

I think what annoys me most is instead of building true mixed development, they are moving neighborhoods too far about to even the SES and race. No one should drive by 2-3 schools to get to theirs.

What privates do high school kids in Darnestown go to?

When did you get rezoned? From Wootton to Richard Montgomery in 1987?

Did anyone go to the meeting last night? I was pretty surprised to find out that they got rid of committees and that PTA positions are no longer going to be part of the study.

Can you expand on that? Which committees, and what does "got rid of them" mean?

DP. I was there. I don't think that's really accurate.

The PTAs used to be a formal part of the boundary process. That was the community input part; the PTAs provided it. But for this boundary study, MCPS will do the community input part in other ways - for example, they mentioned meetings and surveys, in addition to PTAs providing their input if they choose to.

It's a practical decision, if nothing else. Clarksburg HS does not currently have a PTA.

Thanks. That seems perfectly reasonable.

What is the time frame for changing the boundaries?

I was under the impression that the boundary change is slated for Sept 2019, but now it sounds like the students will not start attending the new SV until Sept 2020.

Thank you!
