No, it's not. The middle schools are in the boundary study because of feeding to the high schools (including with split articulation). What may change is: which middle schools go to which high schools.

If the boundary study were about which elementary schools go to which middle schools, then the elementary schools would also be in the study, and they're not.

I think PP is wrong. I think it is about middle school assignments. They are re-drawing the HS and MS boundary lines. They are not re-drawing the ES boundary lines, that's why the ES are not included.

For studies of middle-school boundaries, the elementary schools are included.

I've heard they added middle schools as well because Darnestown ES might get moved to QO and goes to lakelands park ms with most of that middle school going to QO. I hope they move honestly I am not a fan of having them at our school - signed NW parent

Let's see what is proposed on the 23rd, but my understanding is that none of the moves involve QO since it's not part of the study.

They added the Clarksburg and Northwest middle schools, instead of just including the Seneca Valley middle schools, to increase the options.

And probably also to head off the people on this forum, from Clarksburg, who would otherwise say, "Let's rezone Daly ES and Fox Chapel ES from Clarksburg HS to SVHS, there, done!"

As the PP said, since Quince Orchard HS is not part of this boundary study, Darnestown ES will not get moved to Quince Orchard HS as part of this boundary study.

What gangs and thugs from Germantown?

The new SV is going to be great for this area, no way you’re going to lose money on your house. The property value may not budge much, but it’ll go in the positive direction.

Places where proterybvakues are going down are Bethesda and Potomac. Maybe you can get in there?

Everyone wants Darnestown to go to QO, but of course MCPS doesn't make boundaries based on what the people want.

They have to consider things like what's best for the majority of students in their care.

MCPS should stop bussing Darnestown up to NW. Some of the houses that feed Darnestown are right down the road from QO and its rough to break up friend groups from MS to HS. So many kids from Darnestown peal off to private or try for COSAs that the left over kids go into NW without many friends.

Exactly. We are at LPMS right now and DD is in 7th grade. We are districted for NW but no way in hell is DD going there. We plan to meet with the principal of QO next year to discuss a COSA because that is DD's first choice over private, since that is where almost all her friends will be going. Sad that we already have to plan ahead for this. Few Darnestown kids go to NW any since most are in private or at QO.

Anonymous wrote:Well, since the net flow of students will be from overcrowded Clarksburg and Northwest, the real question is which areas will be funneled into Seneca Valley, currently a much weaker school. As a parent in one of the areas added last minute into the study, I of course worry that it is our area that will get axed into SV.

Education-wise I am indifferent because either the kid will get into Poolesville or we'll move to another area before kid hits HS. It is also possible that SV will get enriching science and IB programs, making it an acceptable choice for strong students. Financially, it will be better for resale if our home stays with the initial assignment. Clearly everyone has the same problem, and someone is going to lose big $$$, especially in the short term while SV tries to change its reputation.

IB programs rarely make a weak school stronger; they simply drive families with a greater focus on academics to AP schools.

diamond es which also is zoned to Lakelands heads to NW too. It’s not like only darnestown heads to nw from Lakelands. Or do darnestown kids don’t socialize with non-darnestown kids ? Lol
