That pp wrote "some" Asians.
Is China not located in Asia anymore?

And some North Americans love Trump.

^ I’m sure Canadians and Mexicsns don’t mind being lumped into that statement either.

OP I get it. We have a friend from a foreign country where pets like dogs and cats are considered dirty farm animals. It would be like you saying you have a chicken and a goat that lives in your house and you cuddle it every day and night. And it sleeps in your bed. Cultures are different. OP trying to get along with her traditional family. Some cultures your mom gets to manage your whole life for you ...

I could have written your post exactly, OP. Except that I moved far away and they moved down the street from me.

I would just tell them and get it over with and be so thankful you have distance.

I also get why the parents would be hard to tell about the dog, but one of the great joys of living far away is that you don't have to sweat small stuff like this.

Just don't tell them, OP. Or tell them, let them vent, and let it roll off your back.

OP here with an update!

I sent photos of our Christmas, including one of the kids with the dog. A really lovely, sweet, picture.

Now I just have to concoct a story of how we just got this dog before the inevitable phone call tomorrow.

I was the PP that originally suggested putting the dog into a xmas card!
Agree with everyone else.... no story, just nonchalantly say it's been about a year if they ever ask. NBD
