I have had so many fancy cakes...wegmans is still my favorite.

The taste is very different. I lived in Germany and disliked the desserts. Black Forest cake is gross. They have no flavor. They look incredible and you think it’s going to be great. I only eat one bite, because it’s so disappointing. I feel the same about Korean dessert. Just too bland.

If you like American crème brûlée, cookies, brownies, or pies, the level of sweetness is much more intense than European and Asian desserts.

I do enjoy wegmans and balduccis desserts. Wegmans cakes, fruit tarts, and macaroons are delish. Balduccis chocolate cake is really good. Whole Foods used to have a yellow and choclo layer cake that was amazing. I also like their chocolate mousse.

I travel to Germany and other Northern European countries enough and there's no shortage of that awful sugary fondant / glaze on so many of their baked sweets that adds a pointless layer of sugar on an already sweet item. Will concur on the whole Americans win by a landslide for sugary sweetness but it's also pretty easy to avoid excess sugar in the US. Just don't go to the Cheesecake factory!

Wegmans sheet cake with fresh fruit filling and buttercream icing is my favorite. I bought one once to a party at work and now it is requested for every work event we have!

Agree. I made my DH a chocolate cake from scratch for his birthday. It was so much better than anything from a mix and so much better than anything from a grocery store. It was better than cakes from bakeries as well.

Homemade cakes are great for close family. If it’s someone I don’t know very well and they made a homemade cake-i’m simply not eating it. When you are supplying a cake for an event it makes everyone more comfortable to have a store made/bakery made cake. Also not particularly convenient to make a homemade cake for 30 or more people.

If you are scared to eat cake, your comfort is low on my list of priorities

I don’t like Wegmans sheet cakes but their occasion cakes are amazing. The tiny round vanilla one with buttercream frosting is one of the best I’ve ever had but I’m going to try the others mentioned here now!

I like the Wegmans specialty cakes, but once I got the regular birthday cake (2 layer) and the frosting got too soft when it wasn’t refrigerated and the cake just fell apart.

I'm a Parisian and this post is horrifying.
Have you looked at the ingredients? It's 1/2 car tire. No wonder you all look the way you look.

One day you'll try a really good French, Korean or Japanese cake (because they built their own recipes on the original French) and you'll know the difference. They have way less sugar, and they put all their efforts into the crumb/texture of the cake and the taste. Not with artificial ingredients.

I am one of the pro wegmans poster. I definitely do not think wegmans is the best cake possible or am trying to compare them to high end cakes. I honestly think that most of the PPs like me are saying that it is tastier and more comforting than many other options. I paid $50 for a 6” cake from a small bakery and it was absolutely delicious. Obviously I’m not comparing to that. But that price is not very accessible and I do think wegmans is exceptional for the price and doesn’t taste super processed.

I love the Whole Foods Berry Chantilly cake. My family and I have gotten it for all my promotions and significant events.

this one is fantastic. I haven’t had a great experience with many of their other cakes though.

Got this for my mother’s birthday last month. Incredible. But for a kids party or work celebration sheet sheet cakes from Costco or Wegmans is the way to go.
