I once randomly bought a raspberry-chocolate cake from Wegman's around Valentine's Day. It was so, so good. I could've licked my plate! |
This thread is interesting. I've tried a few of their "slices" and found them to be really, really lacking (dry, chemical tasting icing, no flavor). I never bought a whole cake for this reason. |
I don't find their random slices to be fresh at all. The cake you order tastes completely different. One of the reasons I love it is it's the one of the moistest cakes I have ever had. |
Ugh, store bought cakes are so bad and it's so easy to make one yourself from scratch. You can do it in the time it takes to pick one up from the store. Try it--you won't go back. |
No. I can drive to Giant and back in 15 minutes with a cake that is delicious and made of the same ingredients of a homemade cake and costs less certainly for a larger cake. |
I agree. Also, for daycare and other kids events they sometimes require store-bought. |
I have spent hours following complicated directions and buying special ingrediaents to make homemade cakes and then been throughly disappointed with the outcome. It's simply not worth my time to sit and make a homemade cake that may taste like crap when I can buy a delicious already made one. |
You need to go to Austria and try their tortes. And countries around that make the same. There is a cake and then there are Viennese tortes. Heaven in the mouth. |
I love Viennese and central European tortes but they are a different beast entirely. The classic American layer cake is just as good and rewarding. |
Well, yes and no. I'm an experienced home baker and baking cakes is a particular pleasure of mine. But when it comes to a classic layer cake a good store bakery can bake very good and very reliable layer cakes. As long as the ingredients are good it will be just fine and tasty. Even a basic cake mix can be quite good (the ones to avoid are the ones that have weird flavors or add pudding), and of course, storemade icing is to be avoided at all cost. Just keep in mind not all supermarket bakeries are created equally and some, like Wegmans, are decidedly better than others. |
Never had a good store bought cake. I make my own |
Love you both. |
A good store bakery will use the exact same ingredients you use in homemade baking. Flour, sugar, eggs, milk. They will also have the reliability of proper ovens that distribute heat evenly and of course the expertise that comes with baking dozens and dozens of cakes daily. I prefer to bake my own cakes as I enjoy baking, but I certainly don't sneer or claim that I've never had a good store bought cake because I've had plenty of perfectly enjoyable cakes from bakeries and good supermarkets. |
Yeah lemme just hop over to Austria next time I need a birthday cake. It's equally as convenient as Wegmans. You people are insane. |
Ukroups cakes are the best followed by wegmans. |
