Wow. I couldn't stomach going through that entire batch, but the sheer volume of her tweets tell me there's more than merely satire going on. Someone who is just "poking fun" does not go on that extensive a rampage, and keep it up for that length of time.

And fine. Freedom of speech and all that. But she should not be on the editorial staff of (one of) the country's most prominent newspapers.

Actually most of those are clearly satirical. Some are very funny, I loved her tweetstorm about an app to help white people cook rice.

Clearly the problem here is that many of you have no sense of humor.

So the next time a white person tweets about "dumbass f'cking black people pissing oll over the the internet like dogs" or that maybe "blacks will become extinct and that was [her] plan all along" or has a hashtag "cancel black people," to quote just three of hundreds, you will think it's funny?

It depends on the context. In context, Jeong's "marking up the internet" tweet -- which you don't even quote correctly -- may not be not humorous, but it is also obviously not racist. In context, she is clearly referring to specific tweets and the (presumably) white authors of those tweets. She wasn't referring to all white people. It's also pretty obvious to anyone with a brain that she doesn't really want to cancel all white people. You seem to want to read her tweets in a vacuum without any context and without any additional knowledge of her. That is a mistake.

To address your question, if a white person made a joke about the opinions of specific black people (not sure why you want to pick on black people when they had nothing to do with this, but you be you), I'm not sure anyone would even flinch. That sort of thing happens all the time. Look at all the criticism of Maxine Waters and people who support her. Do you consider that entirely racist? If a white person used a "cancel black people" hashtag, it would most likely be considered racist. The US being what it is, the idea of cancelling white people is clearly absurd and not serious. Sadly, the idea of cancelling black people has some historical resonance and cannot clearly be understood as hyperbole or not literal. Again, these things can't be looked at in a complete vacuum. History and the existing power structure need to be considered.

The NY Times is either too incompetent to have done its due diligence on her, or it implicitly accepts her stance. Either way, it loses its credibility.

Would we even be talking about these tweets if someone hadn't dug them up?

Where's the fairness in that? These were made years ago, and no one was aware of them until someone went back and found them. At some point, you have to stop focusing on what someone said years ago and start focusing on the motives of those who went back to the past and brought all this out.

What were THEIR motivations for doing this? Isn't it with those people that the real racism is found here? They went back to the past to find stuff to attack someone in the present.

That's inexcusable.

So the people who FOUND the tweets are the racists?!?!

Not the person who MADE them.... but the people who brought them to everyone's attention. You're telling me THEY are the guilty parties here?

Really?

This is the skewed, sick mindset we’re dealing with. Of course, it’s perfectly fine for liberals to dig up offensive remarks made YEARS ago and use them against people today (Trump, etc.). No double standard at all!

I find it disengenuos that anyone active on social media was not aware of her (Jeong’s) vile and racist tweets.

But true to form since it was a minority member posting them it’s obviously quite all right and in fact demanding of protection.

Shame on you, rather than fact check you went straight to defending her and her hate.

To be honest, I still haven't seen a tweet that in context was hateful. I think you need to consider your own reaction and maybe the thickness (or lack thereof) your skin.

This is a new low for you Jeff, to see the kind of stuff you find funny.

+1
Can you imagine the hot minute it would take for a post to be deleted here if it used Jeong’s exact words but replaced “white” with black, Hispanic, Muslim, etc.? What a joke.

....and the poster rightfully banned. But here, the racist is being defended, with a weak attempt to paint her as "funny,"

You can thank Sarah Jeong for that.

This discussion is making me question how much of the outrage about Jeong's tweets is manufactured for partisan purposes and how much is really a result of acute snowflakeism. Are you folks really this threatened by someone picking fun of you? She is basically turning a mirror on you and you are having a heart attack. It's astonishing.

See? Even your remark about your not knowing why I'd "pick on black people" but "you be you""stinks of an accusation of racism on my part. Look at how you twist things around in an attempt to defend the anti-white racist, while "hinting" at racism at the white girl who objects to what she sees as obvious racist hate speech

And the reason I used black people as an example is because....duh.... it is the perfect counterpoint. It's "funny" when it's against whites and racist against blacks. Would you have preferred I used Muslims or Hispanics as an example? (I didn't, because it's not as obvious a comparison.) But if I did that, dollars to donuts you'd ask me why I was "picking" on Muslims or Hispanics.

I could go on, but what's the expression about teaching a pig to sing? You simply will not admit you were wrong on this one - obviously wrong to everyone but a few extreme progressives around here - so I give up.

Considering I’ve never spoken about anyone, regardless of race, the way she has - and I don’t know anyone who speaks like that - she’s not turning a mirror on decent people. She’s simply exposing herself as a hater of white people with an enormous chip on her shoulder. She deserves to be fired from the NYT.

Kind of like how all the outrage about Trump's tweets, statements and policies is manufactured for partisan purposes, and how much is really a result of Trump Derangement Syndrome.

Don't you get it? It's not about this one racist. It's about the revelation of the double standard that liberals, and the NYT is particular, have when it comes to racism - and which you demonstrate again and again with each of your posts.

Against blacks: Completely unacceptable. Against whitey? So funny!

Yes, I think your choice of black people for your example is revealing. Your entire list of blacks, Muslims, or Hispanics are groups that face daily prejudice. Obviously, kicking people when they are down is not funny,. Jeong herself is Asian, but for some reason you didn't consider using them for your hypothetical. This is an important part of what Jeong was illustrating -- she was simply showing white people how minorities get treated every day.

Trump routinely questions the intelligence of black people. Yet, you support him. Jeong compares the opinions of a few white people to dog droppings and you want her fired. Tell me again who is deranged?

It's more about the fact that such a person, if making fun of any other ethnicity, would not only be not hired by the NYT, but leftists would make sure she never worked again. But because she was making fun of white folk, she's to be lauded.
