Doctors/hospitals can confirm that a person is dead if you call up there, but they won't give out details of how the person died. All you need to do is ask if so and so died. If you know their date of birth, even better. Deaths are public information.

The Op called herself his fiancé. To the family she may be a paypal. Was there an engagement party? Did the family gift her anything? To be honest, OP, I would definitely try to verify his death. The whole thing sounds fishy.

Walk away from all of it.

Knowing more about his death won't make the grief easier. Having his ashes won't make the grief easier. Having the right funeral won't make the grief easier.

I had a very close friend die at a young age in the same way. I felt as you did that her family didn't understand or follow her wishes. But honestly, who cares? She's dead. Funerals and the small details are for the living. If her parents needed it a certain way then she'd be ok with it. This petty fight with his family all doesn't matter anymore. He's gone there is nothing left to fight over. Do what you need to find closure but lashing out at them brings you no closer to peace.
