Katie Couric didn't know?

I saw the video of Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb announcing Matt's departure. There was genuine emotion there - they weren't faking their distress. That said, I think they have some levels of knowing that they need to account for to themselves, too.

Yes, Savannah was genuinely concerned because she was wondering WTF might happen with her job. She knew and she looked the other way.

He was once "Roasted" at some club in NYC by his peers with most of the roasts centered on his womanizing. So Katie Couric certainly knew about that but did she know that he sexually harassed women? Possibly not, but she she can't be surprised and shocked.

She admitted to being his victim of frequent "ass pinches".

This thread is so sad. Our president explained to us that it is totally natural for guys to engage in locker room talk, so ML probably told the men of NBC of his bedroom escapades and lewd comments. The entire NBC and today show power structure was like 99% men when katie was on the scene, yet somehow people want to take the one woman with some power there and blame her.

It's all "he said she said, no one knows what goes on behind closed doors! BUT KATIE COURIC SHOULD HAVE KNOWN!!!"

Makes no sense. And as someone in the news industry, I can tell you ML at his worst was still like some of the best behavior you'll see. Beyond ridiculous to think that KC could have changed the whole dynamic of the industry. Also, as others said, it is entirely possible she thought he was a cad who was having consensual affairs and didn't know about the abuse and harrassment. But whatever, there are clearly some people who think good looking wealthy men are entitled to whatever and that women must sacrifice their careers to police them.

Exactly what do you suggest, 15:13?

Not blaming women for men's bad behavior, to start. Just find it odd that no men were blamed for letting this go on so long - not the NBC brass paying his ridiculous salary, creating and nurturing a culture that allowed for this, the other male staff, etc. This thread is all about how it was all Katie's fault.

Did you miss the title of *this* thread?
I bumped up for you the thread about the perpetrator, Matt Lauer.

Correct. You knew that by the title, right?

We're kind of fed up with people who knew about the smut, but acted like they were ok with it.

What, exactly, would you have wanted her to do about Lauer? What would have been enough?

No, she's a victim of her own ego and climb to power. If Matt did this years ago, why didn't she raise the roof about it then?

Right, she should sacrifice her own career and well-being to take him down. And, she talked about him pinching her ass in 2012. Is that early enough? When would have been early enough?

Sometimes, it takes people willing to tolerate and work with jackasses like Lauer to make change from the inside out.

That's the difference between a strong sister and a weak sister. Yes, she should have sacrificed being in that high position. But I guess you wouldn't care if your own daughter had been one of his victims, eh?

Oh, please. The woman (or women) he was having sex with were ADULTS. Some making women into constant victims. They were willing participants and certainly didn't have to be.

My daughter can take care of herself. You might consider teaching your own daughter. Have you talked to her regularly growing up? Do you discuss these things now? It’s best to establish a consistent rapport with your daughters.
Does your daughter play sports? These are modern times - teach your daughter to be a leader and not a victim.

See 00:04. She recently said she had been joking about that comment.

I think they sent a clear message to the other victims. We will not support you. We loooovvveee Matt. Look at me crying...you think I will cry you? They knew and did not care at all about some intern or contract employee “hooking up” with Matt. Matt is at their level. The others are not and are unimportant.
