It seems to me that a journalist working closely with someone for 15 years would have known something. Similar to Oprah who has assistants who are in the business of learning what is happening in Hollywood. It seems disingenuous. Does anyone think it's true? Enlighten me.

I think there are levels of knowing. She may have genuinely been consciously unaware. That's not to say she shouldn't do some reflecting about why she wasn't more consciously aware than she was, and taking some responsibility for that.

I saw the video of Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb announcing Matt's departure. There was genuine emotion there - they weren't faking their distress. That said, I think they have some levels of knowing that they need to account for to themselves, too.

The thing is, so many women of a certain age think "well, it's her own fault" "she should have done this" "I guess she wanted it". Check the Aziz Ansari thread if you don't believe me.

Guaranteed she thought these women had brought it on themselves and now she's covering her behind because of the public outrage.

I don't think it's unbelievable to think he hid his affairs. He would have behaved differently with Katie than he would have with a star-struck production assistant.

I agree that he hid his affairs from her. Also, think about everything she had going on while she was on Today. Her husband was sick and then died and then she was a single mom to two young girls. I’m sure she wasn’t paying a lot of attention to what was going on in Matt’s office.

I'm 10:02, and I agree with this and the comment immediately above yours. Although I do think some information about Matt's behavior was filtering in, and that she may have dismissed what she was hearing.

She's a journalist and interviewed sexual harassment and abuse victims. Her working life is all about investigation and communications. I have a very full life outside of work, and am still aware of office politics and personal situations at work.

She's supposed to give a flying fck that a coworker was having affairs? He didn't get canned for having affairs. He got canned for crossing a consent line.

Definitely knew she was having extramarital affairs. That was well known. But that is not unusual and I think no one dreamed that this non-consensual/pressuring situation was occurring.

Geez you are relentless! What Matt Lauers victims went through has nothing to do with that really bad date Aziz Ansari had. I'm not saying he behaved well, but stop comparing the two. You are seriously doing actual victims a disservice and you are too dumb to realize it.
