I think Katie and others around Matt knew he was ....a cad? If people still use that word. Someone who acted out and flirted and was inappropriate, but, in the end, they didn't know the extent. They might have suspected, but when someone is friendly to you, you think they are like you - maybe a flirt and a bit of "bad boy" but they probably bought it was all talk. And then in some sense you just don't want to know, so it's not like they would say, hey, so, when you were flirting with the PA, did you hook up with her? No, they'd see him flirting and just think, that Matt, he plays with fire, but that's just who he is.

She went easy on him in the People article, mainly praising his wonderful personality, and talking about how she felt, and how this should never happen. And, oh by the way, she has this great podcast, a special coming up, etc. Life is great!
