This Is Us -- Season 2

Agree--I'm not particularly annoyed by Toby (he reminds me of my cousin's husband who is a complete tool but a good guy at heart). Kate annoys the hell out of me. She keeps saying "I'm a 37-year-old" woman but she acts like a 12-year-old. She is so completely helpless and blames all of her insecurity on other people. She's the worst.

Maybe he was at a bar drinking. I don't think he died in the fire because his belongings were too pristine. But I do think he died that day.

but how did she call him? Pretty sure there were no cell phones around when he died.

Good point. Maybe she called him at work. Or at a bar.

I don't get all the Toby hatred either. It's totally understandable that he would want to be the number one guy in Kate's life, rather than Kevin. Of course he wants to be the most important person to her.

Did he go into the army or did I miss something?

Milo Ventimiglia deserves an Emmy from last night's show.

The Emmy went to Sterling K. Brown.

They are getting a foster kid next week? That's crazy. You have to go to foster parent training and be a licensed foster parent. It doesn't happen in a week.

Yes, the Emmy given out this year went to Sterling K. Brown for his work on last season. I suggested that Ventimiglia get an Emmy next year for his work in last night's episode.

I'm not sure all the previews they showed at the end are all for next week. I thought they were more for the whole season.

Nice idea but there’s no category for a single episode for a drama lead actor.

Even if they were for the next episode, it doesn't have to pick up a week later in their time. They're not bound by our calendars.

I got the impression that this is a new backstory they were introducing for Jack's character-- PTSD from serving in Vietnam? I think the timeline would work. Plus last season, when they showed him before he met Mandy Moore, he was looking for work, trying to figure out what he was going to do with his life, but he was too old to be right out of high school. Could have been home after a stint in the military.

I actually thought that flashback was supposed to be of Jack’s father - it showed Jack watching his father drink, then that image. I got the sense it was explaining what drove jacks father to drink. Could that timing work?

+1. This is what I surmised too.

Count me in as finding Kate truly annoying. What was her "what, you used to sing?" remark to her mom? I didn't get that. Was she being sarcastic (wasn't said with a sarcastic tone of voice)? Or being mean? Just didn't get it.

Also, little girl Kate annoys me too. In those elementary school scenes, surely she is supposed to be at least 9 or 10 years old, but she seems to act like she's 5. I have a 9 year old, and it's just not normal how she acts. Tween/teen Kate is much better.

This is what I was thinking too. I assume it was what drove his father to drink.

Yes, Kate was being sarcastic. And mean.
