Who Are the Annoying People Who Ride Their Bikes on River Road During Morning Rush Hour???

Anonymous
The PC thing is to say that bikers have as much right to the road as a car, but the reality is that the roads are designed for vehicular traffic, and city planners bank on being able to move a certain number of vehicles in a given amount of time.

Legally, a car can drive 10-15 miles below the speed limit on a highway, but that has a massive effect on traffic flow. A bike isn't much different especially since there are timed traffic lights on roads.

Unfortunately, short of banning bikes during rush hour (which wouldn't work), there isn't a viable solution. They'll cause traffic problems just like those pace cars you see slowing down the left lane on a highway. And just like them, people will honk and swerve around. "Life finds a way."

Bicycles are vehicular traffic.

If you mean to say that road engineers have designed roads for cars, then yes, I agree. Road engineers need to stop doing that.

Want to play a game of illegal things someone can do to put you at risk? Good luck on the receiving end of that. You're not invincible.

I'm a big proponent of biking, but I kind of agree with this PP: a biker who choses to bike down River Road at rush hour just can't expect 3 ft of clearance and big slow downs from passing cars.

Realistically, you shouldn't expect it, because drivers don't do it. However, it is the law. I hope that every drivers who complains about bicyclists breaking the law is scrupulous about giving three feet of clearance.

We're not. Hope that River Road ride is worth it!

So you break the law while complaining about bicyclists breaking the law?

I'd either get a car like everyone else, or take a bus. But it's idiotic to risk your life (it it really IS that dangerous) just to get to work.

You can't tell me a bike is the ONLY option these people have. No one believes that.

Therefore it's a choice. And they are CHOOSING to risk their life to get to ....... their desk at work.

That's just F'ing stupid.

If I'm gonna risk my life, it'll be to save my kids or my wife. Not for getting to my job.

You're being over-dramatic about putting your life on the line and cycling to and from work is an excellent way of getting exercise.

It's a nice day outside. I think I'll take the SUV and look out for bikers to blow past. See you on River!

What tango? What fight? Drivers should obey the law, including giving bicyclists three feet of clearance. Bicyclists should also obey the law -- but there is nothing illegal about bicycling on River Road.

Also, threatening people with assault with a deadly weapon/vehicular assault isn't funny, where I live.

Bicyclists break laws all the time. Honking loudly while I blow past you isn't illegal, but it sure would be inconsiderate, wouldn't it? Just because you CAN do something doesn't mean you should. Biking down a main thoroughfare road necessitating that some (nicer) people will slow down behind you is rude and selfish in the extreme. Selfish actions have consequences.

Good. Please obey the speed limit, give bicyclists 3 feet of room when you pass, stop for pedestrians in marked and unmarked crosswalks, and stay off your phone.

When a person uses a bicycle to get from Point A to Point B, that's inconsiderate?

How about all of the people using cars to get from Point A to Point B, who are really the ones clogging up the roads -- are they being inconsiderate too?

Plus, actually it is illegal for you to honk loudly while you blow past a bicyclist in your car.
