I got $5 says I can find all types of stuff on social media about said artist from articles written by journalists trying to get a peek into their private lives to people dedicating Facebook pages to that celebrity and posting every tidbit they can find about them to the celebrity him/herself using Twitter and Instagram or whatever to satiate fans dying to know everything about their personal life.

I don't have a favorite artist - and I only listen to country. Of course you can find things are their private lives. I don't understand that either - I barely know who sings what song and I certainly don't care what their personal lives are like. I mentioned Beyonce because she was all over the news this weekend.

Maybe a good psychology book is in order. Is there a name for why people follow celebrities?

Your fascination with this topic deserves its own book.

See how easy that was...and I didn't even have to try hard.
People have an interest in celebrities whether it be musicians or athletes or actors, etc. and this fascination spans across all age groups all ethnicities and all genres.
If you are just now noticing this "phenomenon" I don't know where the hell you've been all your life.

I'm not just noticing now. I'm just now asking.

It's human nature. Plain and simple. It's human nature for people to want to know more about things they are interested in.

Do you have any interests? Do you ever research or seek more information on those interests? It's the same thing.

And if you answered No, I'd say you are very unique in that way.

What planet are you living on OP? You sound like Rip Van Winkle waking up after 25 years of sleeping

Again, I've noticed it for a while. I'm just now asking about it.

I was into movie stars in high school, then decided my own life was interesting enough. That's NOT a slam on anyone here, just an explanation for why I sound like I've been under a rock.

So you were just as confused when Brad Pitt's love life was in the news 24/7, from his marriage to Jennifer Aniston and their subsequent divorce to his involvement with Angelina Jolie and the 20 or 30 kids they adopted and you were just as annoyed with the cutesy name the media had for them..."Brangelina"...right?

Or during the whole Katie Holmes/Tom Cruise drama, which also included children and nicknames and went on for-freaking-ever?

Honestly, just don't worry about it. Sounds like you won't ever get it.

OP, do you have Asperger's?

I don't understand why people would willingly go camping in a tent, or spend alot of money to see U2 or Bruce Springsteen in a stadium when it's 90 degrees out, but I would never post asking people to explain the phenomena to me.

As the mother of a child with Asperger's, don't be throwing statements like that around. What OP said has NOTHING to indicate whether or not he/she has Asperger's. But let's assume OP does have it. What is your point, besides being an asshat?

I'm not the one being defensive. I just asked a simple question. I don't understand celebrities....especially, I guess, when adults are all into them. And no one can answer the question, which I find very odd. Isn't it rude to be this interested in someone else's life? And strange to be interested in the life of someone you don't know?
