Help me understand Beyonce

Beyonce is neither stupid nor trashy.

I say this as someone who does not care for her at all. She is extremely annoying. She and her husband are unbearably arrogant. I don't care for her voice and don't think she is a good dancer (one trick pony as someone mentioned up-thread).

All that said, she is a better role model than many female performers out there.

I mean, she isnt the first star the media has given a "cute" name so why is this puzzling you? Michael was called the King of Pop. That was darn near 40 years ago. Aretha is the Queen of Soul and she got that name before MJ got his. She is a performer/entertainer who is worth $350 million married to a first rapper to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame who is worth more than she is. Both have a huge fan following. Plus she was carrying twins which is not as common as people might have you think, and Jay Z missed the induction ceremony for the Hall of Fame and sent a video from Obama -- the first black president and another newsmaker/celebrity -- likely because she was giving birth. This is not rocket science.

Ok, so it's celebrity in general I don't get. Because I don't understand why any of this is interesting if you don't know the person.

OP, what are you expecting to hear? You're not interested so why post about it? So you can sound smug?

So, it's human nature for a person to want to know more about something you like (or love). You love a certain musician, for example, so you listen to more of their music. Maybe even wiki them to learn where they grew up, where they studied music, what awards they earned, etc....that spirals into following them on social media and tabloids. The musician plays (no pun intended) into their fan base - that's where the money is - mostly through social media with pictures of themselves, maybe outrageous attire,...you get the picture.

But seriously, OP, you don't understand the phenomenom of celebrities? Do you live under a rock? It's nothing new. More ubiquitous with the all the social media out there. Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presely, and the Beatles would've done the same thing if Twitter, FB, the tabloids, and E! were around back then.

No, and I posted about it earlier but my post got lost in people arguing about her clothes. I don't understand the phenomenon. I get that it's something people do, but why? I understand listening to more of their music if you like it, but not wanting to learn everything about their personal life.

What kind of music do you like OP, who's your favorite artist?
I got $5 says I can find all types of stuff on social media about said artist from articles written by journalists trying to get a peek into their private lives to people dedicating Facebook pages to that celebrity and posting every tidbit they can find about them to the celebrity him/herself using Twitter and Instagram or whatever to satiate fans dying to know everything about their personal life.

At this point you need to accept that leotards are Beyoncés signature performance look. MJ had his white glove and socks. Elvis had his white suit. Janet wore a bustier with oversized pants. Tina Turner still wore short fringe dresses when she was touring at age 70. After all these years it would look odd to see Beyoncé perform in pants.

I love TT and her short skirts. I loved that when she and B performed Proud Mary B wore the short TT skirt. I'm just sick to death of leotards. They just look dumb whether they're 18 or 80.

I used to be a fan when she dropped her first and second album. Now not so much. But I agree that Beyoncé as a person is far from trashy. She seems like she could be a nice person. She is married, with kids and doesn't do drugs. She appears to be philanthropic and family oriented. There is no denying that she's talented.
I think a lot of people hate her because we envy her, if we are honest with ourselves. She's pretty gorgeous (even before her plastic surgery she was a knockout) She can sing and move so well that she is almost mesmerizing. She also grew up upper middle class and have been famous for most of her childhood.

However, I will admit that Beyoncé as an artist is a bit trashy, edgy etc. I'll blame that on her alter ego as it almost is completely opposite from her own personal image.
I also hope that she doesn't consider herself to be godlike. Her fans really worship her. It's a bit scary.

I don't think she does. She comes off as very shy and humble like. Especially considering how rich and famous she is.

I'm not the Beyonce generation (she means much more to the 20 somethings in my office, I'm 40) but what on earth with the stupid or trashy remarks? People have an interest in celebrities whether it be musicians or athletes or actors, etc. and this fascination spans across all age groups all ethnicities and all genres.
If you are just now noticing this "phenomenon" I don't know where the hell you've been all your life.
