Help me understand Beyonce

Maybe it's celebrity in general I don't understand, I don't know. Help me get it.

I mean, she isnt the first star the media has given a "cute" name so why is this puzzling you? Michael was called the King of Pop. That was darn near 40 years ago. Aretha is the Queen of Soul and she got that name before MJ got his. She is a performer/entertainer who is worth $350 million married to a first rapper to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame who is worth more than she is. Both have a huge fan following. Plus she was carrying twins which is not as common as people might have you think, and Jay Z missed the induction ceremony for the Hall of Fame and sent a video from Obama -- the first black president and another newsmaker/celebrity -- likely because she was giving birth. This is not rocket science.

Ok, so it's celebrity in general I don't get. Because I don't understand why any of this is interesting if you don't know the person.

OP, what are you expecting to hear? You're not interested so why post about it? So you can sound smug?

Agree with the leotard comment. Sick to death of them. Michael Jackson was a singer and dancer and never wore one. I don't care how in shape someone is--the leotard is for a 4 year old dance recital.

Michael did wear leotards

At this point you need to accept that leotards are Beyoncés signature performance look. MJ had his white glove and socks. Elvis had his white suit. Janet wore a bustier with oversized pants. Tina Turner still wore short fringe dresses when she was touring at age 70. After all these years it would look odd to see Beyoncé perform in pants.

And you are just figuring this out about yourself? Seriously, your condescension is no cute. It does not make you better than other people, in fact it makes you seem completely out of touch with reality.

I agree, have you been living under a rock because this is nothing new. Its prerry surprising that this is a foreign concept to anybody but especially someone who reads and posts on an entertainment board and reads yahoo.

We get it OP, you don't care about celebrities or pop culture. Congratulations. I actually have quite a few friends who are the same way, the difference is they don't ask ridiculous questions to make themselves feel superior. (Nor do they read yahoo) you are not the only person especially in this area that is not into celebrity culture. looking down your nose at someone who refers to Beyoncé as queen bey does not make you interesting or cultured or smart.

she has a good pr team. She is incredibly stupid, and trashy. Not that many people care, just her sheep.

I can help you understand.

She is a singer. People like her.

Here is my favorite song by her. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fqRZnTRNXAU

People are interested in celebrity's personal lives... like Catherine Duchess of Cambridge... everybody covered her having a baby. I don't really care, but other people care about things I don't care about.

or that crazy chick that married Brad Pitt,.... Angelina Joli.... every time she collected another child it was in the news.

Because she IS the Queen. Nobody does it better.

Isn't that an opinion, though?

Totally an opinion

I can't stand her. She is a nothing to me.
A dime a dozen

And that's my opinion.

No, it's something that's bothered me for a long time, and I've never been brave enough to ask - because I'm scared of responses like yours. I KNOW people are into celebrities, but I can't figure out why. Beyonce just came to mind because she's been all over the news lately.

And yes, I AM out of touch with reality, no matter how much I try. Sometimes I feel like I'm an alien on earth, doing research.

I know someone who has worked with her and he said she is super sweet and very shy and almost introverted like. Very respectful of everyone's time and efforts. I've heard her say in interviews that when she hits the stage she turns into somebody else - I think a lot of artist are like this (think Janet Jackson). In interviews Beyonce does seem very mild mannered. Now her sister OTOH, my friend said completely opposite things about Solange.

^^ Oh and I get that a lot of people dont like her but your statement "not that many people care" is laughable. If that were true she would not be worth 350 million. People def care. You are correct though, she has a fabulous PR team, fantastic choreographers and wardrobe people, etc. The people on her team have their finger on the pulse of what popular culture wants. Whether you like her or not, that can not be denied.

so I was trying to politely say most people I am around could care less. Maybe it is a class/social thing but I cannot even look at her much less listen to her sing. I saw her perform at the Superbowl and was shocked how bad she was.
