Has anyone received an HGC letter yet?!

For those of you who received acceptances, what's the deadline for responding?

Did they mention when the scores will be coming? Makes you wonder if they are delaying sending the scores to mitigate appeals.

No mention of date. I agree that it is to make appeals more difficult- especially since we know they are taking a more subjective approach to letting children in.

What do you mean?

Does anyone know the size of the waitlists?

Child's current school can meet the needs -- is the decision

Disappointed.

it says the number of candidates applied is quite large. !

Our letter has not arrived yet, but we don't expect our child to get an acceptance letter. All I can say to the parents who received rejection letters today is to keep your spirits high, and your child's spirit even higher. They are only 8 and 9 year olds and the world is their oyster at this point. This one decision from a county that keeps their decision parameters vague should not determine your child's long road ahead.

I think 1/3 of the approx 125 third graders at our school applied. A couple will get in.

I'm heartbroken and honestly flabbergasted. He scored 232 on his 2nd grade MAP-P test - I was told it was the highest the school had seen for 2nd grade. His 3rd grade teachers told me he fit the definition of what they consider a truly gifted child.

Not sure if we will appeal or not.

Good luck to everyone else who is waiting on their decisions today.

What were his Inview scores. Just curious and if you don't feel like sharing that's fine.

Wow that's weird you only got one. sorry for the extra wait for you.

Happy to share (it's all anonymous here, right!): His Inview scores were Analogies: 90; Sequencing: 99; Quantitative Reasoning: 98; Verbal Reasoning Context: 99; Verbal Reasoning Words: 85

His 3rd grade teacher just reported to me that his MAP-R scores this year were 214 and 232

Has anyone heard from Pine Crest/Oakview? Have they increased seats by adding a center at Piney Branch?

I'm sure there's a lot that goes into the decision besides test scores, and that adds to the whole crapshoot element: grades, teacher recommendations, the position of the stars....I totally understand that you're disappointed (and I'm steeling myself for disappointment for my daughter) but there's just no way to know what the deciding factors are (unless you sit on the HGC selection committee). The decision doesn't detract from the fact that your kid is really smart and has lots of potential.

Our child got rejected with similar scores and home school feedback. Also barnsley. Home school is really good so I can't say needs can only be met at HGC. Simply not true. Also large peer group of smart kids.

This is grade 4. It really will be ok

Absolutely true

Home school has a lot of kids under a lot of parental pressure to get in, complete with test prep.

A lot of perspective and calm is called for here.
