Does anyone believe Chinese have a right to birthright citizenship?

Anonymous
US citizen. We had to pay Chinese income tax because we worked there. We also had to pay US income taxes, as does every American working abroad. Yet, when we came to visit the US we couldn't get a doctor to see us. We had to go to the ER and pay $1,500. So, we absolutely had a right vote here.

If you are a US citizen, you do have the right to vote here. But, what was not getting a doctor to see y ou have to do with it? FWIW, there are many American citizens on Medicare who have trouble getting doctors to see them.

The mod should change the title of this thread. OP was really asking birthright citizenship but singled out Chinese for some reasons (racism against Chinese?).

Maybe Trump will change that for DC and Americans abroad if it's so unjust.

Could you clarify that? You mean every foreigner working in the US and paying taxes should be able to vote? Seriously.

Do you think that Donald Trump should have a right to vote since he hasn't paid any income tax lately?

It may have been anti-Chinese racism at play. Or maybe it was simply recognition of the fact that mainland Chinese are the most aggressive exploiters of this absurd loophole. Mexicans and Central Americans come here looking for work and do have US cit children when they are here but the primary motivation is to work and earn money. Chinese are seeking the passport for personal gain and utility.

Agree with the above post! The harm to America with this loophole: thousands of babies born here in such cases has led to hundreds of "first month mom/baby care centers" illegally run underground. They affect the neighbors, neighborhoods negatively, they profit from these rich families and got the payment stored in China by cash, this practice doesn't benefit the US economy. They require the moms/families to pay hefty cash and ACH in banks in China.
They then help the babies families - mom, dad, aunts, uncles, grandparents, cousins, etc. one by one to get the US passport. or Green Card. Then in the US, these ultra rich people appear to be without much income. They then apply for public subsidies in housing and all the welfare. They then get medicare, medicaid, and live comfortably in senior housing and getting a monthly stipend. They are taking a huge advantage of our taxpayers money while contribute little to the society.

It seems anti-Chinese racism is acceptable to both liberals and conservatives. It makes you wonder why. So birthright citizenship is OK for illegals crossing the southern border because they are Hispanics but not OK for Chinese or the other "less aggressive exploiters" on B-1 visa?

Do you have statistics to back up your claim and give us the racial breakdown of US births? Are they contributing to the economy or drawing welfare?

It's not about race. It's about motives. Birth tourism is a luxury product for the rich. They are essentially buying U.S. Citizenship. "Illegals" are busting their butts to work and hopefully stay here to become part of society. These include Chinese people here illegally, of which there are many.

PP, did you even read the article you posted - beyond the headline? A whopping 663 Chinese crossed the Mexican border in 8 months. It said many of them were asylum cases, wanted to be sent home, and were trafficked.

The vast majority who do choose to stay here - and there are many who don't - are highly-skilled. Besides, there are tons of Americans who have Chinese companies or US companies who do business exclusively with China who are making a shit-ton of money. I assume their motives should be scrutinized as well.

If my wife has a baby while we're vacationing in China is the baby given birthright China republic citizenship? If not, why?

No. Neither the People's Republic (China) nor the Republic of China (Taiwan) offer birthright citizenship. If your wife gave birth while in China or Taiwan and you asked about that they'd laugh you right out of the hospital. What your child would get (in China) would be a lung full of polluted air.

I would sometimes ask people in China about that if they complained that they found it hard to get US citizenship or visas. I'd ask if they supported more visas and birthright citizenship for the African immigrants in Guangzhou. They'd get all offended that I would even include them in the same category or sentence as Africans.

Not true at all. There are lots of unskilled Chinese here illegally. The articles cited just one source of illegal Chinese who came and in just one place. The problem is far more massive. The article was meant as an example. In 2015, there was a deportation backlog of 39,000 Chinese nationals here illegally. That's not counting the ones still in proceedings or detention or the ones underground. That's just the ones we couldn't get on planes. There are 2M Chinese born people in the United States. If I had a dollar for every reason that was "the reason" Democrats lost the election I'd be living in Trump Tower trolling Twitter. I assure you, the fact that some Democrats don't care about Chinese babies being born in the US is not even in the top 100 reasons that the Democrats lost.

Why is it that you are only concerned about birth tourism involving Chinese? Surely you are aware that nationals of many other countries do it as well?

Trump campaigned on populism anti immigration. all the other republican candidates wanted to increase immigration. Hillary wanted to triple h1b program. Obama has quadrupled the OPT program

I know you prefer to just yell racist but a lot of people voted for trump in spite of his racist comments

We need to out American workers first in immigration reform

Have you asked Trump why he employs foreign workers on visas at his properties, instead of Americans?

We have discussed this before We know he does this. Business is forced to take advantage of any loophole given by the government. He knows this. The laws need to be changed to stop the subsidies for corporations and to help American workers. He knows this too and has said this many times

It was Hillary and pelosi that push for keeping the h1b laws and increasing immigrating.

Trump uses people on H-2 visas. Silicon Valley and US corporations wants more H-1 visas. Yuuuge difference between the two.

We lived there for years and know tons of people who did this and never lived in the US. It doesn't bother me.

What bothers me is Americans abroad having to pay US taxes even though they haven't lived or worked in the US - some for decades. I think it would be more equitable to make a path to citizenship for many who do work in the US so they can pay taxes. If you work and live in the US > you pay US income tax.

So our country's citizenship is used to game the Chinese system? That is great. That is really what I want my country's citizenship used for. Why don't those rich Chinese friends of yours focus on changing the education system in China rather than running around trying to get US/Canadian/Panamanian, etc passports? By providing an easy out for rich Chinese and their cash we are actually harming the reform process in China. Why try to make your country better when it is easier to pack your bags full of cash, get a foreign passport and get out of Dodge? Let the poors deal with the pollution, crummy schools and so forth.

Same dynamic is happening in India Rich people send their kids to US and then use our laws to let them bring over the whole village. Fresco Texas is majority South Indian. India stays corrupt and poor.

Birthright citizenship is wrong not matter what race

But the reality is it is the Chinese that abuse it the most. There are tourism operators targeting this
