Unfortunately for the Democrats, the Clintons wouldn't let Biden run. |
There would be more backlash against women if Hillary was elected. Not at the federal level, obviously, but at certain state and local level. Read Susan Faludi's book, "Backlash", about the 80s. ... "According to Faludi, the backlash is also a historical trend, generally recurring when it appears that women have made substantial gains in their efforts to obtain equal rights. " |
And I actually think the trump win is part of this backlash. All around the world, countries are electing extremely conservative, anti-woman governments. Look at what has happened in Muslim countries over the past twenty years. As women gained rights and jobs, a significant part of the population started freaking out. I think we'll look back at this period in history as a backlash against the '80s and 90's freedoms. |
| OP, the majority of woman voted for Trump. Please go away. |
Yes, I agree. I also think race relations got worse after Obama was elected. Same phenomenon. |
As a woman (and especially a white woman), you have only yourselves to blame. And the men most of you married.

OP, I'm wondering if the anti Muslim hate couple with Christian white male dominance could lead to the banning of the hijab.
Like the Muslim women on the beaches of France this past summer who were ordered by the police to remove certain items of clothing.... I could see a ban on hijabs and burkas here. As a woman, I don't want a government telling women what to wear, or not. |
| It's not Trump that'll usher in the Christian Sharia laws, it's the crazies who feel emboldened that their views are right that'll start trying to implement all the ancient laws from Deutronomy. |
No, Trump was never against all abortions, or even against planned parenthood, or against birth control. But there are enough Rs in the House and Senate that want nothing more than take women's reproductive rights away, and the new Supreme Court (once new judges get in) may make this all a reality. No abortions, no birth control, defund Planned Parenthood- they have no check now and can push their agenda through. Unless, enough Rs don't vote for all of that. |
Any type of birth control that isn't contraceptive -- the pill, IUDs, implants. It will take time for a Trump court to overturn Roe v Wade, of course, but they will try. And anyone who lives in a state that passes some "life begins at conception" law would necessarily outlaw abortifacient birth control. |
Tell this to states that have slowly, incrementally made it nearly impossible for women to get abortions. |
It's like when the KKK rose up in the wake of Reconstruction. |
This is ludicrous. They won't be banned. They just won't be free anymore. An IUD will set a woman back $500. If you don't have $500, are sexually active and want to ensure that you don't get pregnant - now is the time to get them. But the technology will still be there for those who can pay. |
This is because Roe v Wade made these states allow abortions when they didn't want to. So they are finding ways to make it very difficult, skirting around the ruling. Other states would have even more liberal abortion laws were not for the R v W restrictions. This is what happens when the courts are used to ram through things that states should determine. You want liberal abortion laws throughout the US? Do the hard work of a Constitutional Amendment, not the short cut of stacking the SC to be aligned with your beliefs to make a decision imposed on all, no matter the support in individual states. |
