If she is a renter, she should complain to the owner who can pass it on. She is not part of the building ownership and doesn't have the same rights as an owner.

OP here... You must not have any children. It literally takes all of a second for a child to be somewhere he isn't supposed to be. I watch him like a hawk but I just find it to be a safety issue for the building. As a mother I'm even more concerned and aware of danger.

Yes I have kids. I have the common sense to know it is not a place for kids and would not bring them there. Simple.

I was honest and said yes I can hear the kids running above me but why would I complain about something that doesn't bother me. And besides, they are a lovely family. And who really cares if me and 6 other residents through a party for an old manager? Like really... What's the big deal? Almost all but one board member came and enjoyed themselves. At the end of the day what is the big deal? The things your citing are absurd. I haven't done anything to the building and am a good resident who cares about the building and the safety of the residents.

It's really crazy the politics of being a renter in a condo. if I didn't have a child they wouldn't know I exist. As soon as we brought home that baby we had a target on our backs. Never
a word until we had our child.

Chair in the pool and that you keep putting a lock on the gate up on the roof - these are things that don't concern you. If you don't like them like other PP's said, don't go up there. It's not politics, it's just that you're in a condo regime and frankly, you rent, so they don't care what you want or think. They don't owe you anything. You need to deal directly with your landlord on all of this stuff.

OP Do you have a one or two bedroom condo?

What does it matter the size of my apt?

I'm not sure why everyone is upset with OP for wanting a lock on an open gate to the roof. I'm. OT 100% but pretty sure there are rules and regulations regarding rooftop access to areas that go to the edge of the roof. At the very least a sign saying do not enter. This chair in the pool thing is stupid. She did it once after seeing it done before by swim instructors, was told not to and stopped. What's the big deal?

I own in my building and have sat on the condo board. A lot of people in buildings hate children. It's very true. Especially renters with children. I feel like she is being targeted. It just doesn't seem right.

If a neighbor made noise and someone asked me, I'd tell the truth and say yes but unless it bothered me, I wouldn't complain or make a fuss. That shouldn't put a target on this family's back. A party for an old manager shouldn't either. It's just strange and seems like a bit of a witch hunt.

So the op isn't entitled to the full enjoyment of her rental?

Op call the office of the tenant in DC. They are absolutely discriminating against your child. Sue them.

Simple.

I lived in a condo with kids too. And I also felt targeted. I decided to buy and then became the asshole they accused me of being. I looooooooved letting my kid dump goldfish all over the place, scream and yell in the hallways early in the morning, and leave fingerprints everywhere. So op if you do decide to leave, remember to be the asshole they're accusing you of being!!

She isn't demanding that they cover light switches and child proof the building. All she wants is the roof made safe people!

Call like pp suggested. Insane.

Sue them for what? There may be legal reasons why there is no lock, such as requiring two exits off the roof in case of fire. Either way, she does not own the property, and the management has said no. So, she can take her kid to all the free museums, splash pads, a playground, a public or private pool and more. That pool is not designed for 2 year olds. She is bored and harassing them to fill her time.

She has no rights as a renter. Her landlord does and it would be their job to complain, not hers She has the option to move.

Great idea, allow your kid bad behaviors that you will have to break later.

OP here... What makes a pool "for a 2 year old". My 2 year old can swim without holding onto me. He knows how to float, tread water and swim. He swims just fine in our little empty pool. We have every right to use the roof like any other resident. The fence isn't open because of fire code. It's open because the latch broke last year and they are too lazy to fix it. There are 2 exits off the roof with 2 stairwells. How do you attach a pic? I'm happy to put a pic up I took to show you the open fence.

I'm going to call the office pp suggested. I'm being targeted because I have a child and they want me out. Pretty obvious here.

And you'd be the first person to sue the condo board over a pool your child shouldn't be in especially without a life guard present.

DC public pool regs are "Children's pools are small developmental pools which range in depths from one to three feet, and are designed for children up to 12 years old." In my area, there are adult pools, children's pools, and baby pools - the latter which seems more appropriate for your child.

Good plan. Keep complaining. You do realize you posted where you live and someone easily could have told them. You are looking for trouble. If they choose not to fix it, then don't use the roof. Simple. You rent, not own.
