Condo Roof Top Hazard- question/ wwyd

You can imagine how upset I was to have to remove them. I had my child in the laundry room with me and the manager told me he is not permitted to touch the machines including putting my wet clothes in the dryer (he loves doing laundry). My bike lock is still on at the pool, thank goodness.

The management company is Abaris. Beware! They hire idiots.

Given your complaints about the roof, te manager probably doesn't want your kid being put at any risk and then having you complain later. Your kid could easily get hurt in the laundry room, especially if he is running around and touching the machines.

Pretty sure my complaints about the roof are justified. You must not have a child. I am not sure I would understand my complaint until I had a kid.

The manager went so far as to tell me flat out the building isn't child friendly and I should look into a building with a playground. Um we are a block from the zoo and near tons of parks. Not sure how much more kid friendly you can get.

Honestly, he's right. It's not like you didn't know what you were getting when you either rented a condo or bought in the building. The place is more than 70 years old and has hundreds of tenants! You cannot expect the condo board, the building management, or your fellow tenants to bow to your whims or put a look on a pool therefore inconveniencing everyone else hoping to enjoy the rooftop amenities.

Keep your child off the roof, do not let them place in the laundry room and stop inconveniencing others, especially in a building that has seen better days and probably has owners that do not want to cough up 5-6 figures for a damned fence on the roof. If no one has fallen off in half a century you're not going to convince them that its an immediate priority now.

Yeah, I was on OP's side until she posted her other thread and after I looked up her building. The fence is a huge/tall fence. I can't see anyone actually walking through the gate instead of staying in the pool area.

I don't want a fence... I just want a lock out on the gate since there is no latch. Anyone can just walk off the roof.

Ok, so just be careful or offer to pay for the gate which would cost thousands.

Supervise your kid or don't go up there.

I live in the Carlton condo which is 2829 Connecticut Ave nw. The condo board is insane. You can literally walk off the roof of the building. No lip and no edge. I put a lock on the fence again and they can use bolt cutters to get it off. I just couldn't not put one up. It's insane.

You do not own the building. You do NOT put a lock anywhere.

When someone falls off the roof the condo board and management company will have a lock up there so fast. This is insane. OP is right to want a lock on a gate the goes to the roof edge. Shocked by how people think she is crazy to want this.

OP, are you for real. There is a huge fence around the pool area that looks newer. That is not a pool for a 2 year old.

I don't think OP explained the roof right. There is a gate around the pool but maybe the roof itself is accessible from the fence? Not sure. OP didn't give a good description.

So, if she is in the pool area heavily supervising her child, how is it an issue.

I don't have a kid but I do have parties on my roof and we drink. With my idiot friends, this could pose a potential problem. If the roof is open at night and people hang out up there this is dangerous. My friends are basically 2 year old and it's dangerous.

Abaris is terrible. That aside, if they won't put a lock on the gate, ask them to put a sign up prohibiting going beyond the gate. That would hopefully give you some more protection (from a suit against the assoc.) if something were to happen.

Also, you could get into a lot of trouble for putting a bike lock on community property. How about an industrial zip-tie instead? It would stop the children & drunks, but could be more easily cut off.
