Crowd sourcing to DCUM or PoPville may satisfy the soul not resolve the problem. This is the reason a portion of the condo fee pays the management company

It may help in that it provides publicity and the management company may feel more pressure to resolve this. It's worked in other instances of individuals being ignored by business or govt entities until the problem was aired on PoPville.

Yeah, and guess who's going to end paying for the pretty new fence? I would be pissed at the two-year-old's mother if I was her neighbor.

But the OP hasn't named the building. Shall we play guess where OP lives?

Please post your address so that one of us poor bastards can get rich by falling off your roof. Thanks.

This is f-ing crazy. Of course there should be a barrier so people can't just walk off/ fall off of the roof! Are your fellow owners high??? Report it to DCRA, management, AND the buildings insurance company.

Did you read about the earlier poster and liability and lawsuit $$ if they do nothing? Where would you rather spend your assessment? A one-time fence, or ongoing legal fees after a tragedy?

Honestly the sue-happy culture of the US gets on my nerves. If you're stupid enough to take your toddler up to a rooftop where they can dart over the edge or drunk enough to fall off on your own, good riddance.

NP here. You are entitled to your opinion and feelings (and I am entitled to think you are a bad person for feeling justified in wishing certain people, including small children, die) but the US legal culture is what it is until meaningful tort reform happens. In the meantime and until hell freezes over, the condo owners at the building in question should be very concerned about this. However, I am going to guess that OP is slightly embellishing as what they've described does not sound reasonable or up to code. I would hope it was reviewed by many others before and deemed safe enough. But good lord if not...

Raise the concern but imagine the viewpoint as an adult falling by accident and now it's a liability issue that can impact the costs to the residents . there no reason to not lock the door. Or zip tie it all the time just to annoy the hell out of them

I'm sorry for my delayed reply. I emailed the management company as well as the board and the reply was laughable. I'll happily post. I live in the Carlton condo which is 2829 Connecticut Ave nw. The condo board is insane. You can literally walk off the roof of the building. No lip and no edge. I put a lock on the fence again and they can use bolt cutters to get it off. I just couldn't not put one up. It's insane.

This building is the most NOT child friendly building ever. The management company as well as the board would be thrilled if my kid fell off the roof. They are jerks. They say that my child's fingerprints on the lobby doors lower the value of the property as a whole. They hate children. They even made me remove my blackout blinds in the baby room because it's "against" regulation although the not in writing to have anything but standard blind up.'they are horrible. I'm harassed daily by the property manager who literally looks for my child to touch something or make a loud noise and break the noise violation code. It's horrible and I feel helpless.

Hey OP thanks for posting again. I got good blackout roller blinds at IKEA for less than 10 bucks. Sorry they're jerks. Gummie bears and lollipops leave the best fingerprints.

Thanks PP. It's unreal. Literally every day it's something. I'm so tired of dealing with them. My window is an odd shape. Long and more narrow so the blackout blinds were custom. You can imagine how upset I was to have to remove them. I had my child in the laundry room with me and the manager told me he is not permitted to touch the machines including putting my wet clothes in the dryer (he loves doing laundry). My bike lock is still on at the pool, thank goodness.

The management company is Abaris. Beware! They hire idiots.

Maybe you should start making noise about fair housing act violations.

OP here... I'll start a new post because I really need to know what I can do about the constant harassment I am getting. It's really bad. The manager went so far as to tell me flat out the building isn't child friendly and I should look into a building with a playground. Um we are a block from the zoo and near tons of parks. Not sure how much more kid friendly you can get.

NP here. You are awesome! My kid likes to lick windows. How about a playdate!?
