Does it matter if the pool lifeguard sells pot?

Ask the Association if drug testing is done for life guards. It should be, as this is a safety-sensitive job.

Before joining my company, we were all drug tested (and I work in the Legal Department) and therefore no one's safety is at risk (as it would be if I were a pilot, mechanic, etc).

Insist on drug testing.

I live in Bethesda and am really hoping this guy is not at our pool.

To the PP who thinks it's no big deal if the guy working the snack bar is selling drugs - WTF? you do realize there are kids/teens there all day long buying stuff from the snack bar. What a convenient place to pick up new customers!

I was a lifeguard (late 80s/early 90s). I would say at least half the time, half of the guards were either still stoned, high, or hungover while on the stand. One in particular was famous for sleeping on stand with mirrored shades on. I'm not making this up. The pool manager timed a drill to take place in front of the sleeping/suspected high guard, and sure enough, she did not notice the "drowning victim." She got reprimanded but not fired. true story.

DEFINITELY say something to the Association - just say you've heard this is the case but don't know for sure and have them look into the issue.

My DD says the snack bar is the worst job - disgusting, dirty, mind numbingly boring. Toasted snack bar guys gives them all the incentive to aspire to a better job that you aren't high for (such as lifeguarding).

At the beach recently was a guy who had clearly been doing that job, totally blotto, probably for 20 years out in the hot sun. With browned wrinkly skin and vacant eyes tge guy was barely verbal. I don't think that's anyone's idea of a pleasurable life.
