150k Engagement Ring

She said that if she doesn't get what she wants then she won't go through with the engagement. I understand in some income circles that 150k engagement ring is the norm. However, I want to know your thoughts. Thanks.

Either OP is a terrible friend or a TROLL...

OP no troll here. Just asking the thoughts of some of the ladies here. It was meant to be a lively discussion. I would think that if anyone's DH on here gave them a 150k engagement ring and it didn't hurt their finances that they would take it no questions asked.

Am I wrong???

You're wrong! There are a lot of material things that I'd love to have, but a 150k ring? No thanks! No matter how much money he/we had, it just wouldn't be something that I'd want.

+1

I'd rather put that money toward another home, fine art, a boat, etc.

Is your friend voting for Hilary or Trump?

I am in the top ten percent of the top 1% of incomes in the US. No one i know spends that much on a ring. The only time I see those types of rings are on celebrities or folks married to a celebrity. Those are the only types that think wearing a ring like that is acceptable.

OP here. I would take the money and use it for something else like a home....boat...etc as well.

And I think she's probably not voting since Trump is the nominee in waiting. Or she may vote for him since he's a repub.

Some people have so much money that they don't have to choose between $150K ring, boat or house. They can have it all.

That said, requiring a $150K engagement ring is ridiculous

If you are spending 150K on jewelry, you should already own the house, the second house and the boat. Only THEN should you consider throwing your money away on something so silly.

There is no way I'd accept a $150K ring!! First, I would not be comfortable wearing it on a daily basis for fear of losing it, getting mugged or just having it get in the way. Second, the cost of insuring the ring coupled with it's price tag would make me sick - that money could be used on so many other fun discretionary things like awesome vacations or a boat (presumably, someone who can afford that ring isn't hurting to buy a house or save for retirement, the basics). I think it would make me question my bf/fiance's priorities if he chose to spend that kind of money on a ring.

And this is coming from someone who has a pretty sizable engagement ring that most people on here would probably deem "too expensive."

We are talking about second homes and nice boats here. No primary residences.

1% here too. I think the most I have ever heard anyone spending was 30k. And that was because they bought at Tiffany's which is double the price from what most people pay when they are connected with someone who knows someone who imports diamonds wholesale from Israel.

Lol, unless she is Beyoncé, with an attitude like that in her late 30s, she's going to end up with 10 cats, not 10 carats.
