150k Engagement Ring

If you're not trolling then your friend is probably a lesbian looking for an excuse not to ever get married to a man.

My HHI is enough that that huge expenditure is attainable. But if my DH ever spent that much money on a piece of jewelry for me, I would question his sanity.

Dumbest. Post. Yet.

She's just not compromising on the ring price. She said she wants what she wants and that she doesn't ask much from a guy except for the super expensive ring.

So she asks for a lot less than I do. While the size (heck the existence) of the Rock was negotiable, I did hold out for for kind and considerate, and a great sense of humor (that is in sync with mine), and a loving co-parent. And a smart, stable man that I like having sex with. Who shares my value. I stuck to my guns and got what I wanted. If a 150k Rock is her only criteria, she should be upfront about that and not compromise. If she finds someone who shares her values, she will end up in exactly the relationship that she deserves.

Such a strange OP. My vote is on a #TrollFail. But by a 13 year old girl, who has heard that guys spend 2 months salary on a diamond, and therefore wonders if mean a guy who makes1 million/ year should pay $150k. Someone who thinks that a 39 year old, unmarried, SFH owning woman from Loudon County making $130k year has arrived (says the 42 year old mom from Western Fairfax with a 120k/year job). I live with a tween girl, and she sounds just like this.

OP: it's past your bedtime.

Like they always say, it's reasonable for a man to spend two years' salary on a ring.

If she can marry into that kind of money, enjoy! I wish I had as much money as I did before I got married.

I think your post was kind of unnecessary. Women have all kinds of requirents when it comes to relationships. Height, background, never married, no kids....etc. The price and/or size of the ring may matter to some women.

And I think you missed the point. The OP never said the friend "arrived" per se. Just that she's doing well enough by herself. Not that she's all that like you’re making this out to be.

Did you mean to say 2 years salary?

I'm the OP and I was speculating her salary. She very well could make way more than what I posted.

We're not wealthy. We're middle class. But we do buy $150K engagement rings. YOLO.

Huh?

so if she met a great guy, she would tell him to kick rocks if he couldn't spend that much on a ring? i don't buy it.

Let me guess, your friend watches the Kardashians and RHW of wherever and thinks 6 carat diamonds are the norm.

I've asked her that same question and she says yes. She will not compromise on the ring.

It's her thing, why do you care? I hope she likes cats.

LOL. How many engagement rings did you have to buy? Did the first one not take?
